Sometimes.. it's just money. For instance back in the day before good cell phone cameras. Before the internet got as big as it is.. before paypal and ebay started taking such massive fees... you could find a silver jubilee for 600 shipped in classifieds.. take good pics and sell it for 2500 on...
I had 5 of the originals, the loops were all good in them. I'd bet the reissues are at least as good. I have the 2525c now, and it does sound good.. but I'll have to admit I've been looking for a 2555x or original head to trade into myself. Dammit!! It never stops. Lol.
Some of it isnt the tubes, it's the speakers. They need a certain amount of volume until they start sounding good. Some speakers do better at lower volumes than others. A few practices ago, bandmate was using a 4x12 with g12-65s, I was using one with blackback 25s, he turned down and it...
Theres a reason the dsl is one of the most backlined amps ever. Yes it's cheap, but it also delivers.
900s get a bit of a bad rap.. at the time they came out. Everyone was using a dual rectifier shortly after and that was the sound. Also the 5881s dont help, along with being thinner...
I dont think theres any "transistor" squish, but most the the amps like the ar15, the marshall studios and mini jubilee are using el34, and they're 25-30 watts instead of 50 because they're using less voltage... I guess that's like putting a variac on a bigger amp, but dont feel they are all...
My cousin had a couple of those all through the 1980s. He still.has one now, think he has a rack mount head too. They're actually pretty decent little.amps, just dated in their tone.
I miss my old basement!!! Lol. Got divorced, and moved into my grandparents house after we bought the farm after their deaths. Just small rooms and no great place to play.. I need to make some changes. Lol. Some damn nice gear in the pics.
A good strat can often be as useful and easier to transition to than a tele, so I'd play both and see which suits you best. As for an amp, deluxe reverb, or peavey classic 30 or 50 should work perfect.
The spark is a lot more "clean" huge amount of clean boost. Great pedal too. I've always got a tubescreamer in my board.. I'll have a bunch of pedals, and try them out and find ones I think sound great... then playing live, I'll use the tubescreamer and it sounds better.. that mid hump may...
