Want to start playing country. Looking to be pointed in the right direction for gear.

Telecaster is a given, but which one? Looking to spend more on the guitar than the amp. Willing to spend between $500- $1,500. Suggestions? Links would be appreciated.

For amp, looking for something good for both gigging and home. Not wanting to drop a tone of money into a high dollar fender. Are there any more affordable quality alternatives good for twangy, tele country pickin? Someone told me Peavey classic 30. Suggestions? Thanks.

You could find used US teles all over right now for $5-600. The Classic Vibe Squire Tele's are very nice for the money too, just throw in some new pickups and maybe some pots. Find an old 70's/80's Peavey combo with a lot of clean headroom in a pawn shop or craigslist. Then add the compressor of your choice with some delay/reverb.

a tele through a deluxe reverb and/or vox ac30 S1.. great set up

A good strat can often be as useful and easier to transition to than a tele, so I'd play both and see which suits you best. As for an amp, deluxe reverb, or peavey classic 30 or 50 should work perfect.

You thinking old school...Jerry Reed, Merle, Glen Campbell.... or more modern Brad paisley, Kenny Greenburg, etc?

Modern guys are drifting more and more to gainer amps.

Yeah I was thinking modern country might want a Recto haha

Silverface twin reverb and a decent MIM Tele with dimarzio twang kings.

Pretty much. But also Brent Mason, Wade Hayes, Johnny Hiland, Keith Urban

Brent Mason and Johnny Hiland have prs sig guitars, useful in case you move away from country or have other bands because of their versatility. I can personally vouch for the BM sig, stunning guitar that definitely does country but then also covers a lot more.

As for amps Fender will most likely be the most popular option. Check out the fender supersonic, two variations of fender clean and a gain channel that can cover a lot of ground.

Believe it or not, my Washburn N2 will do some killer country tones when you pull out the knob and go single coil mode will the bill lawrence. It’s pretty versatile. But I still want the tele. I guess it’s a psychological thing. Tele tells me I’m playin kuntry. Probably should pick up a cowboy hat for good measure!

I think the Classic 30 it is. Will be buying new on the tele. Links to the go-to models?

Believe or not..laugh or not but lots of current country studio and tour guys using Marshall/Modded, Mesa, EVH, etc. that said... nothing wrong wit the PV

As far as the guitar goes... can't go wrong with that, though if you've not played those noiseless pups of fenders you may want to test them out first just to make sure you dig them.

Otherwise...very solid setup you got going so far.

I dont know what else is out there non- fender wise for tele tones, but I'm sure there are some.I decided to go for it and do it right the first time and had 2 custom fender tele's made, one with a Mcvay g bender and one with b bender.4 way switch, drop e tuner peg and I'm set for life...2 1964 princeton reverbs into 2 4x12 cabs or 2x12 cabs with a timmy and bogner blue pedal and its twang heaven..also run a bogner Shiva or elmwood 90 for modern country rock...
You could get a current princeton or deluxe,or ac 30 and a few pedals and be well on ur way.So many choices these days

Okay screw you guys too lol

Huh? Am I missing something?

I still say fender SF combo and a used MIM Tele. Hard to beat for country.
