30w is right at the tipping point for keeping up with a drummer. They’re typically loud enough, but in my experience they’re right at the edge of their headroom. With a decent PA it’s a non-issue and you can dial it into a sweet spot, but with minimal PA/monitors it can quickly get swamped and...
Channel 2 is ED without the crazy low end.
Channel 3 is kind of Mark-ish in terms of gain and saturation, but more natural sounding. Some people describe it as Bogner-ish. IMO, it’s more Mesa than Marshall. The EL34s cut a lot of low end and bring out the mids and compression.
Swap a set...
This is one of the reasons I switched to the Triple Crown. It combines things I like about a Mark, Recto and Electra Dyne into one amp.
Specifically, I like it because it it does both high and mid gain convincingly. The tight/loose switch lets me dial in a lot of gain without it turning to...
I think it’s because in real life a conversation keeps rolling along, while on they internet someone can spend an hour or two picking apart the meaning of each individual word in something you posted haphazardly at 3am three days ago.
Next thing you know you’re stuck defending some comment...
When I was younger and TGP was all about boutique Plexis and AC30s I liked posting about Dual Rectifiers.
Now that they’re all old and can’t lift anything over 20 lbs I like posting about anything that’s heavier than 20 lbs.
The last couple weeks I’ve been posting about why high output pickups...
I got a warning the other day for suggesting that the reason prices are rising on Chinese made goods is because of the US trade war with China.
On one hand I get it (no politics). On the other hand, why is it political to state the obvious?
I tried to like FB groups but I found the experience really sub-par. The layout and the way topics multi-thread is painful to sift through. I found it made conversations short and everything felt superficial.
I also always felt creeped out. Like someone was looking over my shoulder at...
The biggest difference is the attack. It’s rounder and not as immediate as a solid body. Almost like it has compression on it, but it’s not compressed. Pretty cool IMO.
PRS semi-hollows are more of a chambered out solid body with an F hole and not like a 335, so they won’t have some of the...
IMO, anyone who buys a TC looking for that “Mesa” sound bought the wrong amp. It’s like buying a LoneStar, plugging in a Jackson V and complaining it doesn’t crush skulls.
I bought a TC-50, sold my Mark and Recto, then bought a second TC-50. It does a lot of things well but it’s not going to...
I’d imagine Friedman is using stock Celestion... and if you liked the way a cab sounded with those then that’s what you should go for.
Mesa gets a lot of hype because they’re different, but Bogner seems to do ok with the stock Celestions too.
Personally, I prefer Mesa’s with high gain amps...
1) Try bypassing the effects loop on the amp. On a Roadster I found it slowed the amp down and bloated the low end in a way I disliked.
2) I found putting a Tung Sol 12ax7 in the V1 helped. Mesa currently uses JJs, but the amp was designed when Mesa was still using EHX, which are a lot...
