While I'm a pentode guy & do prefer the pentode Simuls to the Triode Simuls, IMO no Simul has the speed & bark of a full pentode A/B amp. Especially the 60s, they are as fast & pissed off as they come.
That said, when I found out that the C+ RIs were pentode Simul it made a lot of sense why I...
I went to Pitbull last week, played a C+ RI, a Recto RI and a Friedman ;) They had a Marshall 212 loaded with G1265s that sounded pretty damn good.
Listening to the vid I like the mid chewyness of the Snorkler more, but there's a sustain in the Freidman that's very satisfying. I suspect...
Some gigs are mic'd up, some are not.
I've found that what tends to come across as harsh when playing at home or recording cuts better in the live mix. At least, for my hard rock & metal bands.
Interesting. The postfxlvl is indeed a part of the IIB Loop Mod (I call it B+ but the actual description is loop mod), but where's the knob?
When Mike mods an amp he generally denotes it in sharpie inside the chassis somewhere.
In the bedroom and the recording studio, I agree. That said I've been that voice in the corner saying that in the live band, the IIC+ is one of the worst Marks. It's just too smooth to cut. It hides in the mix like a rooster behind the hens when you go to grab 'em. In Mark land I'd take my IIB+...
...Since we're on the subject, the IIB Loop Mod (I call it IIB+ haha) does affect the cleans, but not as much as the IIC++ mod does.
FWIW I've had 10-ish MkIIIs and the ones that I had III+ modded kicked all the asses, regardless of stripe.
For any of you with a IIC+ (and probably also a III), ESPECIALLY those of you with no-GEQ models, I HIGHLY recommend trying out a GB loaded Marshall 1960TV cab- and don't be shy about new production. I had a pair of 2013s and just bought a new pair of 2024s and they KILL it with the C+ / GEQ on...
I've got a new 80s hard rock & hair metal project we're learning 40 songs for including some pretty challenging stuff. I have to say though, the hardest riff I'm learning for this show is Cult of Personality. Where he does the full main riff twice back to back is a real motherfucker for me to...
I'm going to try it tonight with a boost in the loop just for comparison.
Mine is switchable C+ / C++ and the rhythm channel on C++ mode is phenomenal for rock gain. ...and with the right speakers, also killer with the GEQ off. For live work, I don't seem to have the same issues that other...
The amps I'm using are a Mark IIB KRG and a Mark IIC+ KRG. So far the only way I've been able to get a sufficient lead volume bump is with the IIC+ to set the GEQ to Auto, run the rhythm channel as rhythm with no GEQ, then run the lead channel for leads with the GEQ on and bump the mids way up...
Struggling with this one, which seems silly. Say you have a 1 channel high gain amp and you need to get a healthy volume bump for lead playing in a live band. How are you doing it?
Things that I've tried that don't work for me- boost pedal, no volume bump. Wah- no volume bump, just an EQ shift...
