My first one was a IIC HRG that I had Mike C+ and then later C++. Stock it was more like my very late IIB KRG, raw AF, and I always regretted +ing it as well. I've had to learn the hard way so many times with mods- if it's not broke, don't fix it.
FWIW I had Mike convert a Triple G to C specs, and having a real C as well, I was very disappointed in the mod. That amp was far better as a stock G & I shouldn't have fukked with it.
The Rev C was an amazing amp, but nowhere near a C+ Coli. Half the value at best. And, the DR RI sounds &...
I've always felt like Duals & Triples did metal better than ToVs, Road Kings etc.. Those having a tendency to be darker & ... smoother? Probably better for rock/ alternative.
That said & it's been pointed out before, the Rev G IS the sound of the 90s. Boost pedal of your choice, and done.
F Triples are super cool amps, and so are G Triples. I'd say it comes down to the deal.
And, before you spend more than $3K on ANY Recto, you should really try a reissue first. Hint, they kill.
Back when prices were stable and you could actually make comparisons based on value, F triples were around $3500 and C+ Colis were a bit more than double that. Now, who knows, but I bet the difference is still more than double.
I've got a habit of playing a different rig at every gig, to the extent I thought it'd be fun to have a thread to help me decide what to play at the next show. 🤷♂️
I used the C+ HRG RI at band practice today and I'm thrilled to say that it does have improved mids, similar to how the Recto RI does. I had a suspicion.. It sounded fantastic. It had all the tone & bounce of a C+, plus you could actually hear it in the mix!
At this point I'd far prefer using...
In terms of the question in the title, my opinion is it depends on your means and your goals. Can you afford high end gear, and you need to find out for yourself? Then absolutely yes, it's worth it. You can't get the experience of a Wizard or a SLO (for example) from clips.
Can you not afford...
I'm finding that at the level of gear I've worked my way into after years of trial & error, there are only different colors of the right anwswer. :rawk:
Just to clarify- the Recto RI red vs orange vid was all straight in, however the Recto RI vs HRG RI vid had the Recto boosted (and HRG straight in).
To my ear the Recto RI orange channel is the same looseness as any other Recto orange (with much better feels) and always needs a boost. The red...
So I've been playing the Recto RI in my rock band and it's been fantastic. Tonight I played it with the 7 string in the metal band and it was phenomenal. Sealed the deal for me, no other recto I've tried live (C, F, Gs, Tverb, MWs) has sounded that good. Both the red & orange channels were (very...
You're welcome! I'm low on amps these days to compare any more to the Reissues, just have the DSL100 & the IIB+ (the GOAT) left. ..but no one really cares about those amps.
You know funny story, of the hundreds of 6L6 I've tested, I've had BY FAR the most problems with 415s. So much so that...
