Wolfgang VH playing On Fire and Hot For Teacher

I thought the whole show was pretty well done. I enjoyed watching Dave Grohl play drums with Alex and Geddy. The absolute best performance by anyone was Taylor Hawkins son, Shane. That kid killed it in front of 90,000 people under an emotional circumstance. Ed

    Any Jimi/ Trower players here?

Yup. I saw RT several times in the '80's at the Thirsty Whale in River Grove, IL. Good times. Hendrix was a huge influence on me from a chordal standpoint. I'm not much of a strat player though. Your clip sounded great. Ed

Ideas for oddly shaped Basement Studio

Gonna need a WHOLE lot of absorption in that room as mentioned. A lot of reflections if you don't Ed

    Vintage Guitar pricing

Hmm... Never tried a Gemini II. The best modern P90 pickup guitars I've had were a couple of USA Hamer's (a goldtop studio and a korina semi-hollow artist) from mid '90's that I bought for next to nothing. I went through a P90 phase about 15 years ago. I hated the PRS McCarty with P90's Ed

    Guthrie Trapp

I just went back and watched again. I'm hoping this was just a sarcastic remark. That was great. Lots of different styles thrown in there. Ed

I agree to that in many ways. That doesn't take away from the fact that there are some great players there. It's the business side that screwed things up. Country music for the most part, is just pop music with a southern accent. Nashville is just a music factory. Very few artists actually...

I don't understand your response. Are people who only like metal are boring, or is it all music other than metal boring? Ed

    Vintage Guitar pricing

There are some great affordable vintage guitars and amps out there. Check out some old Guild Starfires and Gretsch Corvettes. A great old vintage amp are Ampeg Gemini I's. Good, swampy fender-ish tones. That's what the Stones used on their early records. I've had one for years. Ed

    Guthrie Trapp

Everybody has different tastes and opinions. I didn't listen to very much of that clip, but those guys are good players. That much I can tell. This kind of goes back to some conversation some friends and I were recently having. Just out of curiosity, what determines a good song or a good player...

    Chords and ear training

This is something that is tough for me to explain, I guess. I've played guitar for about 45 years now. Hard for me to remember much from my early learning days. I always advise learning some theory. What makes up a major, minor, domenant, dimenished, augmented, sus chord, etc. Play those chords...

    Guthrie Trapp

Great player and a really nice guy. He's really more of a true country/blues player than Bukovac, who is a rock'n roll player at heart. Unfortunately you won't get much of a response from this forum. Most won't listen to anything outside of metal. Ed

    Vintage Guitar pricing

Vintage guitars is a slippery slope to head down. Watch out for the fakes. I'm in love with old guitars thanks to Tom Bukovac. I really want an old ES-335, but that will probably never happen. Ed

Struggling with finding Keith urban tone

His base tone is pretty simple. Fender-ish type amp with not too much OD should get you in the ball park. Ed

Pedals with velcro, dog hair, cat hair, & pubes

I use 3M Dual lock to fasten my pedals. It is really hard to get off. It can be taken off with some effort, but I see why people would leave it on. Dual lock doesn't seem to pick up all the hair and fuzz like cheap velcro does. Ed

1st tube amp - problems galore - need advice

Depends on the amp and tubes. Typically, EL34's need biasing and not so with 6L6"s. I've swapped EL34's in and out of old Marshall's without issues before. Ed

1st tube amp - problems galore - need advice

Agreed. Just like all the crap gear from the '80's did, I think the modeling gear will fade away eventually. I'm not knocking modeling technology. It's just not for me. A power tube will probably not cause that much of a loss of gain. Like others said, re-bias the amp. My guess is that it is a...

    Holy Shit!

That tone is great! Glad you guys have discovered some love for Tom. For many years, there was very little footage of him out there... then came the lockdown. I love the Homeskoolin' series. It's made me want to play my guitar non-stop. Its also made me really want a bunch of old/vintage...

    The genius of Gordon Mote

Guys, I'm not sure if many of you have been following Tom Bukovac's Homeskoolin' series on YouTube. If you haven't, you're missing out. Ungodly talent and pure musicianship. Everyone can learn something from it. Today Tom posted a clip that he made during a break at a studio session that blew...
