I hate comparing anyone, especially 2 legends but Hendrix was SO much more of a "complete" guitar player than Clapton it's not even funny. Just his rhythm playing alone seals the deal. Clapton never played anything like Hendrix rhythm playing on Axis, Eric was more straight up blues. Albeit...
Personally, I would keep the JB but the OP mentioned he is not a fan. I can wholeheartedly suggest the Duncan Whole Lotta Humbucker set for that guitar.
I have used so many with my JCM800 2204 it is not funny! My current favorite is the Wampler Tumnus Deluxe. The EQ section really lets you dial in the tone and the Normal/Hot mode options are great as well. Other favorites, the tried and true Tube Screamer, Keeley Modded SD-1, Barber Direct...
This was great! I love how he doesn't even know what pickups are in some of his guitars, he just knows they sound great. I wish I could be more like that, seems many of us start contemplating a pickup swap, even before we take delivery of a new guitar! :-)
@saxxamafone I live through the EXACT same scenario with the exact same pedals and have the exact same results. Polytune gets me in tune in seconds, TU3 is jumpy and inaccurate. I don't like the effect of it's buffer either, when it is first in the chain. Not sure why it is so highly praised.
I used Ernie Ball Regular Slinkys since the late 70s up to a few years ago. Along the way, there were a few variations. I favored the EB Rock n Roll Pure Nickels for a while and I used PRS branded strings on my PRS Custom 22.
About 3 years ago I had a hankering to try D'Addario NYXLs and fell...
I wish I had this skill. Here in my neck of the woods in Jersey, prices have gotten insanely high. With many of the old timers dying off, I feel there is a sense of entitlement to charge crazy prices. A local guy just quoted me over $600 to refret an American Vintage 1959 Reissue Strat. Yes...
I am SO happy and feel so fortunate I got to see Badlands up close and personal 1989, here in New Jersey. Ray Gillen was a local boy and was pointing and calling people out in the crowd all night. Jakes tone was massive. Ray's voice right up there with the greatest rock singers of any era.
The best ever I personally tried was the Tim White (Timbucker) Ed A wind. Problem was, it squealed like a stuck pig under even moderate gain. The Gibson 57 Classics sound great in one of my Les Pauls and I am using the Duncan Whole Lotta Humbucker set in my Gibson R9 right now - probably the...
Rio Grande BBQ: My Les Paul Custom sounded huge with this pickup in the bridge. Can tend to veer towards "dark" though in certain applications.
Someone else mentioned the Duncan Whole Lotta Humbucker and I concur. I have these in my Gibson R9 and that guitar has never had a set of balls like...
