been listening to lots of clips of the new 20 watt Marshall and thought Id make a quick and lousy iPhone vid of my old ‘82 2204 to see how they compare, and figured some folks might also be interested in how gainy the old JCMs are.

Please excuse the terrible playing and timing. Excuses excuses. I just came in from 10 degree weather and had to get something while the house was empty etc.

7-string LP Standard, JB pickup. Old 1960A with G12-65s. No pedals.

Here is low volume (about the sound of a loud home movie?). Volume on 2, gain 8

Volume on 7. LOUD.

Another with the volume on 7. Tinker with the volume knob a bit.

Thanks for posting, lots of interest around here lately as you said

Nice!
I've always said out of all the model years, the 82 800 has something special in the power section, that is different from any other year including the JMPs.

Thanks! I don’t know how other JCMs are, but I had a SLO for a good while that I ended up never playing because I just preferred the raw snarl of this Marshall. It’s a bit mediocre at low volumes, but it just roars if you can let it breathe some.

This amp sure as hell needs a mod or a boost to sound musical.

I had an 87 2550 Jubilee that just sounded "Better" when the amp was loud & when the tubes were played on for about an hour straight.
