Both. Got my EVH sig guitar. Have a custom-made guitar to my specs that's absolutely far apart from any EVH. Best of both worlds (Will it ever be enough?)

(Tell me, is it enough?)

The specs need to match me. If they do, I don't care if it's a sig for somebody I like or somebody whose music puts me into insta sleep. If the guitar is cool, it's cool. Though I tend to avoid gaudy/obvious sigs. Understated might win me over if the specs are right.

Like Brendon Small's Thunderhorse. That's just a damn cool guitar, period. Silverburst Explorer with Burstbuckers? Yes, thanks.

Of course, I am a Brendon fanboy since home movies, but if that guitar was an ugly, non-specced out pile of garbage, it would have never tripped my trigger.

Wouldn't hate a Kerry King V if he ever had a sig that wasn't tribal stamped so bad it looks like it should be in a suicide girls shoot. I like the specs and body styling (except for that new Dean with the pinchers on the end, yuck), but hate the paint jobs.

Basically, if a sig is going to catch my attention the artist creating it needs to keep their horrible taste to themselves. Otherwise, I'll go looking for a non-puke inducing guitar.

My first 'real' guitar was an Ibanez Destroyer; mainly because Adrian Smith played one. Got it at 16. Years later, when I got out of the Army I traded it for a Hamer USA Centaura. Just wanted a less 'pointy' guitar; but right after trying one out I knew I was home. Superstrats ever since. Wish I would've kept that Destroyer though.

I have another now. Don't play it much though.

Centauras fuck hard....one of my fave axes :inlove:

No sigs for me if it makes me think of the guitarist whose signature it is. If I play a signature guitar its just cause I like it not because someone else plays it.

Of course i'm aiming for the sound of my idols and i've chosen my guitar also based on that, but the guitar must also feel right for me and be easy to play. For example a lot of my idols use mostly rear routed strat bodies meanwhile i prefer the sound and feel of a top routed/pickguard equipped ones.

So yeah, i think it's pretty much a compromise for me.

100% me and me only. They have to feel right in my hands. And over the decades? It's Les Pauls in top-spot, with the only ERG being ESP-NT7s.

And I don't dig "signature" model stuff (please don't tell me the Les Paul is a signature guitar, the joke's over, it's dead, DOA, we get it).

I only own guitars that suite me . I really don't think I have a "hero" .
Since I discovered Kiesel guitars thats all I own. I do have a Jason Becker tribute but I can't tell you one song Jason played. I bought it because It was really close in specs to one i was gonna have built and it was like $500 less. I Love it BTW.

I'll play any guitar that feels right in my hand! I don't care who's sig it is. I generally AVOID sig guitars if I can help it, but if it feels right and I can rip on it, it is fair game.

Ya again. I’ve owned slew of guitars thru the years.
This ESP just kills it for me. Tone. Feel. Playability.
Just happens it’s my hero’s sig. :D

Only Signature guitar I own is YJM strat....I love the scalloping but it doesn't get played that much be cause I other guitars that are far better... I am a fan of customising a guitar to have the same vibe as my "heroes". Having said that I do play guitars that are in the "style" of the guys I grew up listening to.

I play flying V (mostly Jacksons) because of Randy Rhoads and Dave Mustaine. I play superstrats because thats what most of the guys I consider influences played/play and they work for what I play. I love Ace and Randy but I can't do les pauls as i'm not a fan of the scale length. I have over 20 guitars and generally they are all very similar in terms of the pickups, neck shape

I couldn't care less about other peoples signature guitars. the only signature guitar I have is a Les Paul. Of all the guitars I have the custom spec'd strat I build is the most comfortable to me.

It all comes down to the specs and design, I don’t care it it’s a sig or not.

Ditto, I own a few sig guitars but I own them cus of the specs, not the sig. The artists whose sig is on these guitars are more contemporary artists, Ive been after these specs on these guitars longer than Ive been listening to the music of the artist.

I've had my Ibanez Universe since '97. It works for me.
