Not gonna lie, some of those hot close to home. recovering #6 amp snob, now excuse me while I go plug into my Marshall 8100 valvestate…. ;)

Missing:

1. The modeling snob who thinks modelers are the be all-end all and can literally cop any tone. "Heh, welcome to the 21st century boomer!"

2. The import snob who pretends that anyone who buys anything expensive is a retard. The only possible reason is because they've been duped! "My Squier Affinity sounds just as good as that custom shop!"

3. The one brand snob. "The only reason anyone on earth doesn't like Mesa Boogie is because of (deep breath) USER ERROR!!!12@" This isn't limited to boogies - see the "if it doesn't have a Marshall logo" chaps.

4. The jazz/theory snob. "If you can't hear the Picardy third in the transition, you don't deserve that two rock" common on tgp

5. The offset shitter. "Wow, I'm so impressed that impelliteri can play that many notes. Did you catch the newest tiny desk on YouTube? I have 504 caraline guitar company and EQD pedals." Common on tgp.
You take the cake homie.
Your top 5 list Trumps it.

I just never want to be that guy that has more gear than ability. Like I never want the gear to play me, I want to always command the notes through the gear. I feel I’m pushing that limit even now and May downsize, but I’m comfortable with where I’m at sonically and technically.
All this takes is getting in the mix with talented local musicians a couple of times to rear it’s ugly head.
I kinda/sorta’ was that guy you typed about.
I remember having a Kingsley Tone Baron
with pre-rola H30’s that I was gleaming
through my inner landscapes with,but
it wasn’t coming through the speakers.
And it wasn’t the guitar, amp or speakers
holding my abilities back.
This reality surfaces very quickly.
The answer is not, “buy more gear and hideout more on boutique gear forums to feel whole
about it”…
Gear acquisition syndrome is but a symptom of
the underlying truth’s the player just can’t accept,
add the “more molecule” and the never ending story begins.

That's always the weird part about gear forums

You never know if the person you're talking to actually PLAYS guitar, or they just fuck around and spend money to flex on gear forums

Hey, you wouldn’t happen to know of an amp
that has big Two Rock cleans, Stones’y edge of break-up, Mesa Boogie palm mutes and
classic Marshall upper mid range, all at tv volume’s?
And it MUST feel like it’s boosted even though it’s
not boosted, when I want it boosted at bedroom amp volumes?
Seriously though, TGP is heavily littered with
bedroom amp volume questions & suggestions,
it’s gotten outta hand actually.

Hey Dan, how come we literally never see
obsessive compulsive master volume questions
here on RigTalk????

Because everyone here will tell that hypothetical question asker the truth ?

Which is that everything is a trade-off - there is no all in one perfect solution, and you're going to have to make sacrifices with volume, cost, or sound. Something's gotta give.

Plus rig talk has people who actually play their guitars....I know, it's mind blowing lol ?

Technically bedroom players are still playing their guitars. :)

If you are a gigging player, you still have to practice at home, practice with the band, and then playing shows with the band. Three different scenarios that can present different challenges. Practicing with the band in my experience is usually where I can crank things up the most.

We like on the forums to look down on bedroom players, cover band players, church players, studio players, etc. Just wish people would post where there experience is coming from so you know.

Here’s a truth....I find the more I use all this stuff for its actual intended purpose, the less stuff I need....

Same. My gear collection has shrunk every year. The more I gig, record, etc, the more I know exactly what I need.

Sometimes that means high end stuff, sometimes it doesn't - but for me, I'd rather have a couple really nice pieces that do exactly what I need them to, rather than a cornucopia of shit that mostly never gets used.

A 4x12 cab? What are you, some kind of animal? Anyway, back to TGP, we are having a symposium on what type of leather handle sounds best..full or top grain. And don't EVEN come at me with that "Corinthian leather" business...we all know the story behind that!

I never got fired for that! Guess that’s why I never go to TaGP. That and I cannot stand the amount of nerd minutia about some rando small builder guitar’s percentage of nickel in the frets crap…

The absolute craziest TGP thread I saw was "the effect of guitar straps on tone" and it was a "serious" discussion about which material sounded the best etc.

We all know that the best tone comes from pure leather straps made from only free range organically grown grass fed cattle from the great plains of Montana

Has anyone ever brought two 4x12s to a gig and without even turning it on or plugging in, received flak from FOH or the likes?

No, actually

I use two 4x12s religiously

And the only comments I get are "wow, nice rig" and "holy shit that's a Larry" and stuff like that.

The gigs I play, everyone uses half stacks still

*Shrug*
