It was good, but the Supreme 160 was the overlord of SS amps then. I replaced a SS-140C with a Supreme 160 at the time!!! Of course, I remember posting with you on HC at that time so we probably talked about it then

I'm starting to relax my self-imposed ban on slagging forumites.
@thegame exposed me to some new information....well, a well known persons SoundCloud, and now I assume everyone is a fucking shitter who doesn't know dogdick about anything concerning gear except for people I've heard clips of.
I know, it's a complete 180, but I'm tired of valuing peoples opinions on good faith when I really REALLY shouldn't be, in reality.

haha that's probably true also, since everyone hears different things or has different opinions. It's hard to be objective about subjective things without clips or trying it yourself. Clips can always be deceiving for a variety of reasons, signal chain and mic position being the biggest x-factors between clips (unless someone is not breaking down at all between trials to a/b amps).
I'll also add at this point I have tried JUUUUST about every amp I have wanted to, and now I don't get that GAS anymore. My threshold to stop what I am doing and buy something immediately has shifted dramatically. Now it really has to blow my dick off from demos or clips to get any interest from me. I have my stable and don't feel the urge to chase everything...just a few things here and there.

About amps? I agree. I've found what works for me. As far as clips go, theres a million variables that go into it. That isn't exactly what im talking about.
I just had an epiphany about valuing peoples opinions from forums.
You, Velcro, Racer, Nigel, Smashed, Tiago, Japetus, Medic, i KNOW alot of you guys. I've texted you guys, shared shitty phone clips, facetimed, whatever. I've listened to you guys play, and I know you are actual guitar players, studio guys, etc.
But internet forum "fame" doesnt make someone a good player. And if they can't play? like at ALL? It's pretty hard to take their opinions seriously.
And I just realized I was giving people the benefit of doubt who really shouldnt have it.

Yeah you never know the skills unless you hear them. For sure. And people have different tastes that cater to different styles also (which in turn influences their gear opinions). I was fortunate to have a pretty good amount of time and diverse background in making music before I sold out haha. Now I’m caving and building another studio next year. Designing the rooms for a fresh build now and continuing to acquire gear.
Once I get smoke on the water down it’s game over here for everyone on the forum. #goat

Same...for me getting that little pea shooter Wizard in my hands was the game changer. Ive had a couple other amps since then but that goal was as a backup, not something else I was searching for. I will admit having to get my hands on an SLO30 after JDub brought his over, but that’s it here other than my acoustic rig and a $125 Boss Katana which is the best amp ever, don’t even question that Bro ?

I own shit way above my skill level; I’m ok with it. I gave up GAS last year and I’m happier for it. I’m not the best player, not even close.
I also own a business, have a wife and a kid and run an OTR truck route 5-6 days a week. At this point, I might get better and might not, but I’m ok with it.

The fact that you actually admit it, means you aren't one of the people im talking about.
It's not like you need to be paul gilbert or impelliteri to have an opinion on gear.... it was just a wake up call for me personally, that many of these so-called forum experts can barely fucking play guitar. Like to the point where the gear doesnt even remotely matter. I've heard the soundclouds, and pandoras box has been opened. I can't unsee it, now.

For the most part tho, there are really good players here and a lot of these guys know what they’re talking about.

Absolutely, and the people I've mentioned, I KNOW know what they are talking about.
However, there are people on here (and esp TGP) that really dont have any fucking business talking about differences in tones between high gain amps.

Yeah there are a few guys here that I’d absolutely ask questions of and believe their answers.
I’d never go to TGP to ask anyone about anything high gain lol
Maybe Danocasters and weird pedals but that’s it.

@Racerxrated is a marshall (both amp and cab) expert - he is a good player, and has a great feel for the differences between cabs and speakers
tiago @SBlue has the best ear for raw amps ive ever known, as well as the impeccable ability to identify special guitars playing and sound wise
@VESmedic medic is one of the best producers and engineers, as far as mics and IRs, and even though we have different tastes, i respect his ability and ear
@japetus and @Smashedguitarist are great dudes, and were all blue collar types who take PLAYING guitar seriously, and i respect their opinions because i identify with them as people - they both GET the cost/benefit analysis of high end gear as a real person, and therefore have great advice
@* velcro-fly * is a great live cover player who has the ability to distinguish whether a high end piece of gear, whether amp or guitar or whatever is the "real deal" - you can tell by how smooth his playing AND tone are in his live clips, and his choices to get his tones
@Nigel is a player who understands the nuances of the electrical side of things but can also FUCKING PLAY, especially rhythm - if you have heard his tracks, hes a great turbonegro/foo fighters/rock/pop punk style player with a great ear and cool chord ideas.
There's a million more, but RT is CHOCK THE FUCK FULL of great resources and advice, you just have to know who the real cats are
