I use the Helix LT 4CM for my fx pre & post loop. I love it. Perfect for my basic needs.

I just started using the 10 band in the loop which is like thr MXR and am enjoying the results.

Curious how others are using it, with what amps, and what frequencies you boost or cut & why?

If you can, share a pic of your settings.

Are you able to cop a certain fave album tone?

I’m running mine through a Splawn Comp.

Thx.

Awesome tool! Settings are so dependent on so many variables though. For example I have a 4x12 that I'll cut some lows in the 125hz and below, and another 4x12 that needs a touch of boost in those same frequencies...and even those settings depend on where in the room the cab is located, or what speakers I have in it...or the pickups I'm using, etc.

Or sometimes I scoop 250hz to get rid of some mud, but some amps don't need that cut. I've found it's all about tinkering and using your ears, not your eyes. At this point I can't be without an EQ though. It completely changes the game.

I actually look forward to this , I like try other settings to just see what happens . I’ll try to take pics of mine tomorrow.

I put mine in front. Had Dave Friedman do a power mod to it. Dead quiet now. I give all the credit to Mark Day for recommending it to me.

Run mine flat, barely nudged gain boost, volume to taste....it’s just turned out to be the best clean volume boost I’ve found, not looking for further EQ

I think this was with a JVM 205 but I don’t deviate too much from the curve amp to amp. I took the pic so I’d always have a reference.

This looks similar to what I'm doing with my Splawn.

Bumping up 100-125hz for some bigger, tighter punch without sacrificing mids. I read on a few threads this frequency will do that.

Removing a bit of 500Hz can get rid of 'boxy, cardboard' mids, and I found lowering this slightly to retain good cutting mids, but add some clarity to them.

I also found this on another forum if anyone wants to try it.

Some time ago I found this MXR settings on the internet for instant in-you-balls-metal-sound:
31,25 = 0
62,5 = +5
125 = 0
250 = 0
500 = -4
1k = +3
2k = 0
4k = +3
8k = +4
16k = -1

I use it within my AxeFx just after the amp (like the fx loop on the real thing). Keep the amp settings at noon and just give it a try!

EDIT: these settings for playing alone, not for a good sound in the mix.

Sharing this quote as well:

Less fizzy = cut 6-8k

but if what you're after is increased palm-muted chugga-chugga cabinet thump percussiveness, the 125Hz slider is what you want. Bump it by a mere 4-6db for starters. In most mixes, that's all you'll need.

200-250Hz is the range for warmth-to-mud, so depending on your amp setup, you may even need to cut the 250Hz slider by 2-4db (for instance, if you're running into a Mesa Recto or other inherently muddy amp).

The 500Hz slider is going to give you singing mids-to-nasal honk, depending on whether it's needed or how much.

That looks pretty close to mine. I think they call that the Nyquist curve. I've also run it flat too.
Nice. What amp & cab setup? ...I find I lowered the 31 & 62.5 sliders just a tad with my Splawn as it already has plenty of those frequencies.

Splawn QR and Splawn 212 w Small Blocks. I need to start messing with my EQ more as I tend to set and forget so I'm glad you made this thread.

Yeah I made some small adjustments and I’m digging the amp even more. I’ll have to open up the Helix & see what I did & share it. I’m playing a V30/H75 Creamback 2x12.
