Texas liberal here. I've been a master auto tech for over 25 years and can guarantee EVs are still at leat 10 or more years away from becoming commonplace.

No argument there.

The battery technology is still in the stone ages and the charging technology is even farther behind...

No argument there, either.

I've never expected the move toward EV's to be smooth sailing or to happen overnight...not by a long shot. Plenty of ups and downs to come.

IIRC at least 1 auto manufacturer is slowing down their production of EV's.

Significant technologigal advances are being made, though.

We don't own an EV yet. When it's practical for us, we will. 2035 is over a decade away. We'll be fine here in Cali. Even after the law here that requires all new vehicle sales be EV by 2035 kicks in fully, people can still drive their gas powered cars and still buy used gas powered cars. Gas powered cars will be with us for quite awhile, obviously.

So far, the increased market share for electric vehicles means California is moving toward hitting its goals: Electric vehicles in California made up 25% of the new car market last year, up from nearly 19% in 2022.

20 some odd years ago we were having a similar discussion in one of my ecology classes and something the teacher said that stuck with me was that there will never be a comparable replacement for gas engines until there has to be. Once the proper money and resources go into making the switch, they will figure it out in no time.

He also said that spring water is just caterpillar piss.
Yeah that's bullshit. That's green weenie speak for " We should force everyone to suffer for the "Common good". It's kinda like Pelosi saying, " We have to pass the bill to see what's in it. The mother fuckers who want all cars to be electric are trying real hard to make it viable. Even with government subsidies they can't seem to do it.

I think you are missing the point.

I don't think I am. Your point was the dude said " When the only choice they have is EV, they'll figure it out quick" ( paraphrasing here).

That is basically saying we should just go ahead and ban all fossil fuels. And by the way, if we did ban all fossil fuels I will bet you every penny I own the elitists pushing it on us would still be using their jet aircraft and internal combustion engines until EV did become viable. You know, because they are so important. Like John Kerry flying all over the world to push the Paris Climate Agreement.

You started off on the right path but veered off pretty quick

The reason fossil fuels will be phased out has nothing to do with John Kerry lol
Sheesh. My fucking point there was if your heroes succeed in just up and banning fossil fuel, you can bet your ass THEY will still have the luxury of using them in the mean time, we won't. And trust me, there will be a long, painful mean time. Disproportionately affecting poor minorities incidentally.

Where’s the clip of gates saying “yeah I have lots of private jets, but I buy carbon offset credits”

…that’s the future all you dumbasses. You will ride a bike and nothing will change for the elite.

I feel like everyone is missing the bigger picture to all of these things. There is no viability in using EVs long term. The mines aren't infinite and the grids aren't ready or ever really will be. These kinds of moves are made for the exact reason you stated. Society seems to be doing nothing but creating a comfortable future for the children of the elites. The average person won't reap any benefits. They will be far too poor. Too poor to own. Too poor to have children. I'm guessing that's the point.

So like I said in the beginning, you are skipping over the point, and interjecting your own.

I don’t care who flies where and in what. I’m not even sure John Kerry is still alive. He looked old as fuck 20 years ago. I’m not pushing for EV revolution here. I ordered close to 500,000 gallons of fuel oil last year. Same as the year before, and same as I will this year. I am fully dependent on it.

That doesn’t change that it’s a finite fucking resource. “Renewable energy” is a real thing, and it ain’t oil.

No, I am not skipping over it. I addressed it and elaborated. I am capable of expanding on things. Here, let me just remind you of the point I have mentioned twice now that seems to have eluded you.

The guy who told you that is full of shit and simply advocates for banning fossil fuels now and let the chips fall where they may. The result of which would kill millions of people. Most of them poor and disenfranchised.

There is enough of it that your great, great, great grandkids will still be using it so who gives a fuck.
People who give a fuck, that’s who lol

My professor was saying to not expect electric as a replacement until there is more money to do so than to stay on oil. That’s all. And it pretty hard argue that. Your little tirades offer nothing pertinent aside from you letting off some steam (pun intended)
