I was experimenting with tubes in my Pink Taco trying to get a cleaner tone. I put a 12AY7 in the V1 socket. The 12AY7 is half the gain of the standard 12AX7. The result was pretty good in cleaning up the tone.
Check out the below recording I made. The recording starts out with the gain ¼ way up, then I turn it up to ½ way, then to ¾.
