I like the look of the mustards with regard to stock appearances.. but they do not sound better to me. Do you have a before and after so I can hear the drastic difference in tone? What number are they? 716?

I don't think there's a "drastic" difference between the two types but there is a difference. The mustards sound more articulate with a little more note definition and less gain. The orange drops are more aggressive sounding and have a gainy feel to them. I just finding that the mustards suit my style more and give me more of the sound I'm personally after. It's just a personal preference thing really. :)

The O drops I had in it where 715p.

I don't have a before and after clip but here's a sound clip of the amp with the O drops in it using the same recording setup.

I think the amp sounds great. I went on a spree of changing out caps in all of my Marshall clones, and in my originals if they were suspect. Can't put my finger on it, but the old mustard caps just sound better to me. The high end SoZo caps sounded good, too, very close to mustards, but there was something indescribably delicious with the mustard caps.

The only down side is the cost, as a set of real mustard caps will cost $250-300 now, while the SoZo caps are 25% of that ($60).

But as I've found out, if you try to go cheap on the parts, tone suffers.

As for the Orange Drops, it depends on the circuit, they work well in some amps. I just don't feel Marshalls are one of them. YMMV...

Yeah, Sozos are great if you like blurry dark tones...

The standard SoZo's I believe had that problem, the higher end caps didn't. Or at least mine didn't.

Standard SoZo caps (2007) in a 50w Marshall clone I built.

Vintage SoZo caps (2009) in a 50w Marshall clone I built.

I took the standard SoZo's out of the 2007 build and put Mustards in it awhile back. Immediate improvement.

The 2009 build sounds great, too, but slightly different than the mustard equipped head.

Good to know about the standard vs vintage... Instead of selling my 98 DSL 100 I'm going to do some easy modifications for fun.

I'm collecting parts for a '68 12000 build now and don't know which caps and resistors to buy. If I went with Mustards, which ones would I absolutely have to have? All of them or just a few? There's a guy on eBay selling a newly made turret board with Sozos and the smaller board with the caps for something liek $275. I'm pretty sure I can do it for half that, but sometimes I wonder if it's worth it. I'm spending more time making parts lists and shopping around than it would take me to wire it all up. I also heard there's a Traynor amp (forget which model) that's around $300 and has all the Mustards you'd need for a Plexi build. I could probably swap those out, flip the Traynor and get most of my money out of it. But it'd be a lot of work.

Where do you get the Mustards from ?

I buy all my parts from Valvestorm and a two of the mustards came from them.
However, one of the mustards was given to me by a customer and a couple of them were given to me by a forum member.

Thank you for checking out the clip.

Yeah, I agree.
It's not good to cheap out on parts because the sound will suffer as a result.
The mustards have the mojo and the older the better.
The thing is these old Marshalls weren't built around O drops and that's what the problem is, my '68 Marshall Plexi isn't running at it's fullest potential with O drop couplers.
