I'm collecting parts for a '68 12000 build now and don't know which caps and resistors to buy. If I went with Mustards, which ones would I absolutely have to have? All of them or just a few? There's a guy on eBay selling a newly made turret board with Sozos and the smaller board with the caps for something liek $275. I'm pretty sure I can do it for half that, but sometimes I wonder if it's worth it. I'm spending more time making parts lists and shopping around than it would take me to wire it all up. I also heard there's a Traynor amp (forget which model) that's around $300 and has all the Mustards you'd need for a Plexi build. I could probably swap those out, flip the Traynor and get most of my money out of it. But it'd be a lot of work.

I can tell you that Mustards are great in a Plexi build and the older the better sounding IMHO.

I would also recommend Allen-Bradley carbon comp resistors for your build, personally my favorite resistors.

I think it's best to shop around and find the best parts, it's well worth it in the end.

The clips taken with phone/camera are outrageous. I can't understand people that talk about "great tone", probably if this topic would have been labelled "my new POD500 setup" nobody would have taken any care of listening, and the few heroes would have described it as "blah".

I don't like making sound clips with a phone, it's really hard to hear what the amp actually sounds likes.

With my SM57 I can put people in the room with me and that's always what I aim for in a sound clip.

It's a "must have" for me as my guitar volume is my clean channel so to speak.

I'm mic'd in front of the cab using a Shure SM57 with X2u USB adapter plugged straight into my PC. From there the digital signal gets recorded with Adobe Audition cc.
After I take the raw recorded track and add a touch of post reverb and that's it, done.
I record the video separately and mix the video track together with the finished audio track with a program call "NCH software" Video Pad Editor.
I synchronize the two files together and bingo, finished.

Michael, I really dig the clean playing but man, starting at about the 2:20 mark, I think those are some of the best sounds you've ever posted. Maybe you're playing with less gain here or it's the changes you've made to the amp. Whatever it is, that clip sounds stunning. Such great clarity. The tone is just ridiculous.
