18watt vs. 36 watt?

I have a buddy that has been building amps for a while now. Called me up this weekend to come over and try out a new flavor of 18watt he did. It's kills! One volume, one tone, that's it, nice and simple and great tone coming from this thing.

Only thing I see as an issue is a solo boost, running the thing just about wide open now. Wondering if a 36 watt would give me the same flavor, but wire in a 2nd foot switchable Master for a solo boost.

Thoughts?

It would be kind of like the difference of a 50/100 watt in my experience. The more you add like a other master the more loaded down it gets. It loses high end, more compressed, less raw and loses some definition. How much you can not tell till it is built. There is advantages to both ....

If the dirt is partly coming from the power section I dont think you can get a volume boost, you'll just get more or less dirt. That's why I like my ho attenuator-its the only thing I've found (other than slaving) that gives you two volumes with the same amount of dirt from the power section.

Yeah I hear ya. The tone is damn good though. Think maybe I'll just start investing in a better PA setup and mic more stuff. What PA setup are you guys using Darren?

We dont have to do pa here for the original music. Most places have something like those powered behringers. I have two of them for practice and they do sound good, but not much power. In my cover band the basss player had a powered carvin head with speakers that worked pretty good. If I was I would buy guitar gear :)

heres what you do you switch in or out a second volume... No master... you have two volumes.. if all you need is a lead slightly louder and a hair more gain. have you used relays or vactrols?

I have a board that uses vactrols but you have to know your stuff otherwise have a tech wire it in.

well I could set it up for you ..$100parts $100 labor plus your ship......boost pedals wont do it cause it has to do with no headroom ya know. dual volumes only way to make low wattage amps do what you need.
