1970 Marshall Super Lead

Fantastic condition!

Early transition-era 1959 Super Lead. While Marshall moved to brushed aluminum panels on the outside, the interior circuit remained mostly the same as the legendary '60s Plexi models—including the coveted Dagnall C1998 output transformer.

Still has the original paper model tag on the back. It does have a small tolex tear on the bottom corner of the head shell. The amp has all the original Iskra resistors, Philips/Mullard "mustard" caps, original RS/Radiospares silver mica caps, original pots and jacks, original choke and original Dagnall C1998 output transformer. The same transformer used in older "Plexi" models. Has the 0.68uF bypass cap on the third gain stage and the—sometimes implemented—factory "hot shield" grid wire on V2a, which was later replaced with newer M27500-22RC1S06 shielded silver-plated copper PTFE.

A few common maintenance items have been replaced to ensure the amp is in perfect working order: new ARS filter caps, NOS Piher 10K B+ dropping resistors in the preamp, NOS bias caps, new bias trim pot, screen resistors, modern impedance selector, and the PT was replaced with a Mercury Magnetics MP100-475 that produces 480v on the plates. For safety, the "death cap" was removed and the power cord replaced with a grounded three-prong.

It's loaded with healthy, low-noise JJ ECC83 preamp tubes, EH 6CA7 power tubes, and comes ready to RIP!

You'll be hard pressed to find a Super Lead in better condition.

$5,500 + shipping.

Ok, Im not a Marshall expert by any means, but doesnt that "A" at the end of the serial number designate it as a 1968 and not 1970? If I'm wrong maybe I can learn something!

Well if you'd like to offer me '68 money for my '70, I'm not gonna say no lol...

But no, this amp was built between July 1969 and December of 1970. It's a transition model. While it has brushed metal panels, the internal circuit is still very much "Plexi", including the coveted Dagnall C1998 output transformer. In '68, Marshall was still using sequential serial numbers without the letter at the end. i.e. 10,000 series or 12,000 series, etc. An "A" indicates the first year they implemented a formal dating system = '69 or '70.

I'm glad I asked! I was really confused when I saw the metal panels.. LOL Thanks for the lesson and GLWTS.

Incredible amp! I was looking for either a 1970 50w or 100w Superlead, but now I’m really set on finding a 50w in great original condition like this one.

Then why even post on someone's thread who is selling a 100w.

Because I had told him that I was potentially interested in his 1970 100w Superlead & I wanted to let him know that I’m now going in a different direction. Plus I thought it might be useful to bump the post because it really is a phenomenal amp that more people should see.
