Been wanting a real Gibson SG for a while. Stopped in the local Mom and Pop shop here in town. They have this 1979 Gibson SG Exclusive, little better than players grade, all original everything, even the chainsaw case. Definitely has some dings and nicks here and there. I played on it for 45mins, thru an Evh Iconic amp, sounded decent for sure. Zero clue if this things worth there asking price. They bought it outright from a customer, so they probably havent got alot in it. Any experience with these? Any idea of a real world, todays price?

Nice find! I've never come across one of those, but it looks legit. Those are original Dirty Fingers pickups, too. Brass nut. The specs they listed seem to be accurate. Rare and really not in terrible condition at all. If it sounds good and plays good, I'd go for it.

Do you know if that was made in Kalamazoo or Nashville? Easiest way to tell is if the serial number ends in 5xx or higher, it's Nashville, 0xx (less than 500) is Kalamazoo. Also, the Made in USA stamp is horizontal on Nashville, vertical on Kalamazoo. But there are just general rules and there are likely exceptions.

I'd say between $2000 and $2500. If they bought it outright, they probably have some wiggle room.

My buddy in high school had one because he bought it real cheap in the 90s. I always thought it was kind of a dog, although I was comparing it to my 64 SG... either way the pickups were harsh, and it had the lame shallow headstock angle along with the rest of the late 70s hardware which I'm not a big fan of. The brass nut was... not my thing.

Funny enough he traded it for a Fender US Deluxe Strat in the early 00s which functionally was a superior guitar. Sad that the SG has risen up to that price range while that Strat is probably still worth $1000 lol.
