I saw this today at a store near by and was considering buying it when my Diezel Herbert sells.
I originally put the Herbert up to purchase a Marshall super lead and greenback 4x12 but once I saw this I was in love.
What would you think would be a good price for this?
1979 all original with no dents, just minor rub and wear.

Probably between $2,200-$2,500 depending on condition and originality I'd say. The maple board ones are rarer, but the later seventies LPs seem more common on the used market than the earlier models. That one seems to be in fine shape so I guess it depends how badly you want it.

W.

$2200 i kinda low I think. I would say closer to 3k for that.

Also would this have a tone difference compared to an ebony board?

2700-3000? Anyone else think this is accurate?

I agree, too.

Have you spent a good while playing it? I would suggest playing the crap out of it, if possible. If you like it, offer them 2500 cash on the spot, and see if they will go for it.

It might just be my experience, but older LP's that are in really good shape, are either duds or like finding a four leaf clover. In other words, a bunch of people have bought it over the years and not played it because it does not "do it" for them, or one or two people have owned it and kept it stored away.

This one could possibly be the latter, since it has the maple neck which is pretty rare, and 1979 was not really all that long ago.

I just played it unplugged really quick and checked over the neck for dead spots.
The only way I will know for sure is to put heavy bottoms on it and bring the VH4 over for a session.

I want it, but I like having 2 heads and 2 cabs more than 2 guitars and 1 head and 1 cab.
Tuff call, wish I could just buy it now.

Just make SURE you check the pots and the backs of the pickups before you buy, you don't want someone else to look at it in a few years and say "Dude, how much did you pay for this? Really?! They aren't the original pickups or electronics".

Don't get stung paying original prices for gear that ain't original!

I'm gonna open it up and see what the wiring looks like.
It's a hard choice between the Herbert and this guitar.

The used market is so crappy now, I'm not sure I would pay close to $3K for that. There's just so much to chose from and the maple neck may actually make it harder to sell. Most LP guys seem to be traditional so the maple fret board may be a turn off.

What are they asking for it?

It won't sound like Adam Jones.

But overall, nice guitar and all, probably right about the near $3K price tag, but the maple 'board for me kills it. I can't do maple on a Lester. But hey, that IMHO and YMMV.

Low to Mid 2k is closer to the actual price in this current market. A lot of people dislike those guitars because they're Norlins and not cork-sniffer approved guitars. They can be quite hard to sell at times.

I think it's a cool guitar, but agree with the above that it's a niche guitar. If you're a flipper, I'd stay away because it could be hard to move.

I own a '76 in natural with maple neck and fingerboard. Approximately 400 were made in natural finish and 400 in black like that one.

I love mine. It sound great, but nothing at all like a "normal" LP or LP Custom. It is brighter for sure. I have heavily modified mine with the "Jimmy Page" wiring set up. So versatile!

Anywho, it's a great axe. Just don't expect it to sonically behave like a regular LP.

Yep, that's about right. If you get this for less than $2,500, you've done very well.

The maple fretboard won't make a bit of difference on the tone. :scared:
