Just bought an 83' JCM800 and I'm wondering whether I should try out EL34s or 6CA7 power tubes in it. It's got KT88s in it now, and I don't really want those. Any advice?

I use the SED winged C EL34 in mine. I'm pretty sure you have to change a resister for biasing if you have KT88's in yours now.

Yeah , you'll likely have to consider resistor change to accomodate 34's, 6CA7's... as for the initial question, I like JJ 6Ca7's and KT77's in my amps right now. I know it's crazy because they are JJ and the cheapest... spend your cash on preamp tubes.

Yeah, I definitely know it will need a rebias, the amp will be going in for a checkup anyways.

6550's for that year JCM800. I have an original one, it kills but I need a cap job on it so it sits for now.
