Is a Jackson USA Bolt on DK1 made @ Airport Dr Ontario CA considered a USA Custom Shop ?

It's Ontario California. When Grover Jackson moved Charvel production to Japan in 86, he moved the his USA production from San Dimas to Ontario California. Not Canada.

^^^Ha ha I see you edited your post. I think everything up till 90 was all custom shop, no assembly line spec guitars. Sometime in the 90s that changed a bit.

That's a six digit serial. Refinished too. Plus 3 mini toggles is unlikely on a guitar from the production era (6 digit bolt-on, U prefix neck thru).

Whats it worth ?

Is this a Dinky like 3/4 quarter scale ?

Didn't they switch to a 5 way in 88? You'd have to pull the neck to see if the dates match, with sharkies and those toggles it's prob a mutt, 80s body with a 90s neck. Not sure what it's worth, I'm looking at Jackson bolt ons from the 80s and they range from 750-1500, floyded graphics worth the most.

Mutt sounds right, its the pot metal Trem and not a floyd.

Non MOP inlays.

I told the dude im passing.

He claimed it was "Custom Shop".

Its been for sale forever ...

That neckplate doesn't jive with that body either.

Its like a 80's MIJ Charvel body with a Jackson neck.

He didn't mention custom shop in his listing:
1991 usa jackson dk-1 this guitar has a refinish George Lynch tiger paint job and I don't know who did it but it's pretty good ...original color was black ...no back plate new holes were never drilled ? please ask any questions.

Listing is ended now. The paint job looks awesome, but best to pass like you did.

its USA Jackson, Ontario shop not San Dimas which usually are more sought after. I think it is priced on the high side for a bolt on guitar (DK1) that was refined with a painted neck...a soloist (neck-thru) would grab 1.2. To me the beauty for that era is the oiled necks and painting it kills the great feel for me...that and oversized control route and Jackson pickup rings

No, DK-1 are 25 1/2 scale. Jackson Fusions are Gibby scale. Dinky bodies are 7/8th the size of a Strat body.

He claimed "Custom Shop" on CL.

He claimed different things on different websites.

He was coming from Kansas City area, the whole deal didn't feel right.

I talked about trading a LP but felt it wasn't a good trade.

The body is unlikely to be model series because it has a recessed trem and that scalloped horn, and the schaller puts it at late 80s / early 90s (of course, it could be modified though). Aside from the toggles, the body does look like a Fusion though. And early 90s does fit with the 6 digit serial, but the toggles don't, so..

One things for sure he was willing to drive 200 miles roundtrip for this ^^^^^^

Jacksons are a dime a dozen.

His guitar was beat to shit and had too many issues.

The whole thing seemed weird.

Notes:

1. All Randy Rhoads neck-through-body guitars were given “RR****” serial numbers from 1983 to spring 1990. After that, only custom Rhoads guitars bore “RR****” serial numbers; production Rhoads guitars were considered “USA” models and given “U0****” serial numbers.

2. Neck-through-body guitars that weren’t Randy Rhoads models were given “J****” serial numbers, including Soloist™, King V™, Kelly™, Concert Bass and other models. After spring 1990, only custom neck-through-body models were given “J” serial numbers; production Soloist, Kelly and King V models, etc., were also considered “USA” models and given “U0****” serial numbers. There are exceptions to this rule—production neck-through-body models from the 1990s can sometimes be found with “J” or “RR” serial numbers instead of “U” serial numbers; these typically identify an instrument as a Jackson Custom Shop prototype of some kind. Also, a few Rhoads guitars were mistakenly released with “J” rather than “RR” serial numbers.

I had one of those built custom for me and sold it when I suffered a hand injury. Red metal flake (#261 IIRC)...you're out there somewhere!

These numbers don't reflect the thousands of bolt ons after 85/post Charvel's move to Japan. Those numbers are all over the map, and don't follow any sequence unfortunately. All Jackson bolt ons up to 1500 were built before the move to Ontario, but some Jacksons with San Dimas plates were actually built in Ontario. Only way to really know is to pull the neck and look at the date written in the pocket and on the neck. I believe Jackson moved production to Ontario in early 87. Want a USA 80s Charvel? Just buy a bolt on Jackson from the 80s and save a crap ton of cash. Same guitar.

No doubt he was willing to drive that far. He would have raked you through the coals on that deal. Good thing you passed.
