Thinking about buying a 2nd 2x12..either a Stone Age, Bogner OS, or Port City Wave OS loaded with Scumback J75LHDC 65watters to pair with my CAA 2x12 loaded with Scumback M75 65 watters. If I do I will sell my CAA 4x12 loaded with WGS vet 30's. For those who have had similar setups or comparisons, what's your opinion??

Alot of the venues we play are smaller(200-300capacity) and I think being able to spread out my 2 2x12's or stack them could be a good idea...I could push them a bit more and they would both be mic'd and blended in mix anyway in front of house. I know I probably wont get the same air push or bottom end of a 4x12, but my 2x12 M75 sounds damn good for home use. Im not a metal or nu metal guy... more hard rock, classic, 80's rock type stuff. Opinions?? Thanks

Cory

Gilbert used 2x12's stacked on one another. He preferred them over 4x12's for how tight they stayed and the focused low end that they provided.

I can honestly say though nothing sounds as good as a pair of 4x12's. Just sounds more full and mixes better with the band.

Im using two forte S/V cabinets instead of $x12s these days. Sounds way bigger than the single $x12 i used previously because there is more total volume. I love 2x12s, more practical you can spread them for stereo effects, easier to transport.

These were some of my exact thoughts... Hmmmm  May start 'slowly' looking for another 2x12 ;) Run each cab separate out of my Fortin Kali at a total 4ohm load ( 2 8ohm 2x12's)

lopoline can make you some 2-12 's that are really deep like the boogie ones petrucci uses..they have a killer tone to them. big bass for a little cab.

Thanks Jerry... appreciate the input  I will look into that line. Cheerz and all the best

I definitely like 2x12's and would happily run two of them live instead of a single 4x12

Even better... Grab a small mono poweramp and setup a Wet/Dry rig. One cab runs bone dry while the effects feed into the poweramp and into the 2nd cab. Huge wide tone and retains all the definition since you have one cab running totally dry. That's how i run my rig!

Runnin two 2x12's for like 10 years now?

Posted before but,

Top cab is open back, Weber Legacy's (like Greenbacks), bottom cab is closed backed with V30's.

More airy richer top, punchy tight bottom. you CAN hear the difference betweeen the cabs on stage, it's cool.

Way easier to transport for sure...

At home you have two totally distinct cabs to mic...

I used a Mesa Heartbreaker head into a Recto 212 and a Diezel VH4S into a Genz Benz G Flex 212 in a dual amp rig for about a year. It was an awesome sounding rig but if I had to do it all over again I'd do it with the V and a 412

I bought two 2x12 Avatar Contemporary cabs to go with my stereo rack rig. When it's setup, it's awesome. But... They take up more space on stage than a single 4x12 (even when stacked) and the stages we play aren't big enough to separate them, they take up more space in the trailer, they are more difficult to load-in/load-out (no wheels). I went back to a 4x12 wired for stereo.

Seemed like a great idea, but didn't pan out for my situation. YMMV...

I prefer a couple 2x12s for the bass response and portability. Plus, I drive a sedan. I can fit a 4x12, but its a real hassle. I'm currently using a stock Orange and Egnater cabinet, I'll probably get another orange.

I think when it comes down to portability.. It all depends on which 2x12 cabs you're using. For example, i have used some 2x12's that weighed a fuckin ton, and in reality it made load in even more difficult than just using a 4x12.

However, i use the Harley Benton G212 Vintage 30 loaded 2x12 cabs and they're so easy to lift. Even if i carried 2 or 3 of them into a venue, it would be easier for me than hauling a single 4x12.

Also another point... Most of the bars/venues i have played here in the UK have huge flights of stairs or other obstacles in the way during load in, meaning that you always have to actually LIFT the 4x12 cabs to carry them... Rolling the cab on the wheels is outta the question in many situations. Might be different in the USA though, but lots of UK venues are a pain in the ass when doing the load-in.

I run (2) 5150 III 100 watt's with the matching EVH 2x12's in stereo. One on each side of the stage. I love it. I used to bring the 4x12's for each side of the stage. It's generally way overkill for most local gigs. I only do that for bigger shows now. Pretty lazy lately and have just been running a single amp and 2x12.

Hey I was curious about that when I saw your post earlier about the EVH 2x12. Any problems with handling the wattage of the amps since those cabs have the Greenbacks?

I like the idea of a two 2x12 setup but, that would mean getting rid of my 4x12 cabs and I definitely don't want to do that

Ya I was a little curious about it myself so I asked one of the Fender Engineers who worked on the EVH line about it. He said the 2x12 cabs are rated at 50 watts continuous and that using the 100 watt heads with them would be fine just wouldn't want to dime the volume on them.
