Hey mates... So I played our last gig of the Summer last nite. Best crowd of year... f'n crazy madness... and fun.
2 things I discovered almost accidentally.
1st... I sold my customized LP Standard and realized I was guitar'less' for our gig...lol. Scrambled to find something I was comfortable playing for the gig... Ended up using my guitar players PRS SE Santana model. I was surprised to find how well it played.. really impressed and would actually buy an SE model to have as backup or even main guitar. Stock pickups are a bit 'meh' but an easy fix. Nice guitars!
2nd.... Ive been using my 5153 50 watt for gigging for all our shows this year. Have always run the gain almost wide open on blue channel where I live for rhythm playing... and red channel 10oclock for leads. Last nite I decided to run the blue ch gain at noon, red at 7oclock and hit the front end with my Bad Monkey OD.. level dimed, no gain added. I REALLY liked the tone and feel I got by doing this. I a/b this setup with my previous and hitting the front end just had a better overall tone and feel I didn't get when pushing the preamp gain. Sustain was much better, rounder, warmer and yet better attack. Amp just responded better. I think I will be running it this way from here on out... now wondering if I should grab an SD-1 or some other OD and see if I can get it even 'better'.
Anyways, Im a bit hungover and wanted to share. Cheers and Go Badgers... Go Packers!!
