Been holding out to see if the new Jet City 22h is ever gonna hit the streets and starting to get impatient. Looking for a smaller rig to use at smaller clubs and thinking a 20 or 30 watt head would be perfect. Keep looking at all the heads out there and their options, wondering how a JTM 45 would fit the bill. I may ditch my Peavey XXX head soon, and if I do I gotta have a replacement shortly thereafter.

Would be for mostly hard/classic rock stuff.

Suggestions?

Budda superdrives sound great, bogner has a bunch of low watt stuff now. High gain duende is great from them.
Vht pittbull 45, super 30 thump hard for low wattage and sound much bigger than most low watt amps I've tried. Can pick them up relatively cheap used. New would be the fryette Memphis. Haven't tried that one yet.

The HT-20 through a good cab is rippin. Best bang for the buck small head out there.

Randy,
I would suggest the Randall RM-22 head with modules. Not the cheapest solution but with the GTO The Judge module it is killer!!!!

If you don't need versatility, switching, loop, etc. the 2061x and clones are great classic rock plexi tones at much more manageable volume...me personally I think I'd rather have a 2061x than a JTM45...

Reeves makes some killer low watt stuff too, it seems. Haven't tried them personally...

What about the new Carvin V3 micro combo 1x12? It's switchable to 7, 22, or 50W. I really need to play one.

+1 - I played one of Roy Blankenship's little 20 watt heads nmv, and man those type of amps just have it - plexi type tones at lower volume.

Buy my Super 30 in the classifieds.
Very very loud, and controllable volume. Doesn't need to be cranked to scream.
Definitely fits the style you are looking for.
I jam with a very loud drummer with it and it's never past noon on the master.

Egnater Tweaker (not kidding) try this head into a 2x12 or 4x12 and you'll be surprised. Egnater also has a 40 watt two channel version comming soon ($599) I use the tweaker into a 2x12 with my band (no problem) I was using a 5150 and a 50 watt plexi, before the tweaker. It's the first little amp ( I have played) that has some low end grunt to it ($399)

Best low watt amp for my tastes in that area is the 22 watt Reason Grande.

These should give you an idea. The second video's audio isn't the best but in person these amps sound really good IMHO.

I'm kinda in the same boat, lookin for my next head. I decided on an Egnater Renegade. Ordering it very shortly, unless I find something better in the next day or so.

Hey Randy,

I just recently experimented with having my 78' 50w Marshall switched to 22 w using 6V6 power tubes and REALLY loving the results. It still retains that Marshall British character, and allows me to push the power section harder without having the soundguy give me hell.

if they ever get it out, the little EVH III 50 watter should be cool?
