Ran across a deal on a 2008 Gibson SG, not quite a faded but for sure a ‘WTF Walnut stain’ version haha. Guy had also tried to apply some sort of waterslide decal, but didn’t use water and looks like he used something else and it bubbled and peeled and looked like shit and did basically destroy the gold silk screen Gibson logo on the headstock ha ha ha. I had no choice, but to sand that off flash and flat, got a hold of a vinyl Gibson head stock overlay we’re gonna give that a shot. The thing the got me was the neck, which is just about perfect, just a nice rounded profile not skinny but not even 59’ish…. Otherwise, here’s day one of the revamp project, let the games begin!

Anybody getting into painting I highly recommend this grain filler, works wonders, and base prep is everything, so is patience. I shot one light coat of SprayMax 1k primer, will let that sit for at least a day then sand back and shoot one more light coat. Then wait at least another few days before sanding and even condsidering starting to add color, primer shrink back is a muthafucka

Solid advice right here although im not patient enough to wait days to sand unless the directions told me to, lol.

Good luck velcro, I cant wait to see your finished project.

Well I've been bitten in the ass a couple times with 1k shrink back after A) spraying too many coats too fast B) not letting it really gas off before color. 2k is a better choice but too much $$$ for something that gets sanded almost entirely off. That silver Special I sold recently? Yeah that fucker got painted 2x due to shrink back, but I also fucked up and forgot to grain fill that one so its on me, and the silver showed it really badly. In the end that guitar turned out gorgeous but for fucks sake haha
