2204 with the transformers and chassis painted white - Why?

I bought this on TGP. Seller never mentioned anything about it. Maybe he never took off the back plate.

Anyway, the top of the chassis, including transformers is painted white. Why do that? Is this some sort of insulating coating?

If it is, it is working. This 2204 is the quietest amp I have ever heard in my life. It sounds fantastic.

Going on a limb and say someone got froggy with white paint & a brush.
 
looks like it survived a flood... or a damp practice room with the back off?
 
Looks like mineralization or something like that. Not paint. Try some rubbing alcohol and a rag.
 
The chassis and bell covers on the transformers would of originally had a galvanised finish and as the galvanised finish gradually breaks down and oxidises it can turn into a powdery white appearance that can resemble a painted finish , I have seen it on a few late seventies JMP marshalls its nothing to be concerned about I would just leave it as it is
