25th Anniversary Charvel

There is a 25th Anniversary Charvel (non Floyd) for sale in my area on CL.

Can anyone tell me what the price should be on a guitar like that?

Nowadays it's hard to price anything since it's all jacked up prices due to the pandemic. No supply for anything out there, new or used. But over 2K since a good clean 08/09 USA pro mod seems to fetch 1500 or a little more, if mint.
Not sure how many they made, condition etc. But expect to overpay these days.

It's an 04, looks mint with case, asking $3499.

Yep, that's an expected markup as I would think 2-2.5 would be a pre-covid price. It is what it is; gear has almost doubled in price over the last year. If it's mint then you could justify this price since they were all custom builds; and a new custom shop is around that or more. Plus a 2-3 year wait.

I had an 83 2203 I just sold for a shade under 2K a month ago..and that was a deal since any others I see are 2400 or even more for a vertical input MV Marshall. That amp a year ago would have sold for 1500 tops. Amps, guitars, cabs are all stupid expensive now. Supply and demand; there is literally NO used inventory anywhere to combat the gouging people are doing due to Covid...so now you literally have to pay to play,

So the 25th anniversary Charvel was shortly after Fender bought out Charvel. They were able to finally use the Fender headstock again, and they were a custom shop limited run of 86. WAY overpriced, but Fender was trying to go for the "collectible" pricing kind of like how Gibson does with Historic Les Pauls.

They would do this again a few years later later with the Legacy model (even crazier starting pricing that quickly dropped).

The 08/09 USA pro mods are not custom shop guitars, even though some feel like similar quality (my best one was pretty on par with a CS). They were mass produced with a much lower starting price than a 25th anniversary or any CS.

As mentioned, this market has everything crazy high right now. $3500 is not completely out of line in this market, but once supply picks back up and people cool on their spending, a lot of people are going to be selling at a loss. This is not a buyer's market.

My rough guess is closer to $2500ish or slighty north of that in a normal market.

I am sure it's a real nice guitar but, just can't justify spending that kind of money for a bolt-on neck guitar.

It does look like a collectors piece, better than buying a painting I guess.
 
So I guess this came out right around the time they were making those $10,000 EVH Art Series guitars?

I bet it is just as nice.

So there were the regular production models and then the hand striped tour guitars. The regular striped Art Series I had a few of, I think they were priced around $2600 new, I remember buying them used closer to $2K. The hand-striped were the really expensive ones Ed would play live and then sell, I bought one used for around $17K I think.

These are sadly being sold at hyperinflated prices due to Ed's passing on top of the pandemic market to begin with, I won't even make an opinion on that, it makes me sad to even talk about.

But as players, overall no, neither the production nor the hand-striped tour guitars were really anything more special than a regular CS Charvel. However, they do have this asymetrical neck profile I really particularly liked.

I don't know half of what you do about this line.

Is the single PU, single knob, no whammy, a standard model from the era that the 25th annv. signifies?

Seems a weird combo.

Yeah, it's the "classic spec" of the early 80's San Dimas strat head Charvels. The "holy grail" models with the magic necks and all that. After EVH popularized this spec with his early guitars (including the single PU/knob), the "super strat" was born. The Floyd Rose wasn't in mass production yet either, hence the Fender style "vintage trem" that was common to this era.

Again, think of how people buy Gibson Historics, and debate anything that isn't technically "period correct". That was the idea behind the spec for this anniversary Charvel model.

At that price, not likely, but you never know.

Funny how things change though. There was a 25th anniversary for sale here maybe 2 or 3 years ago, and the seller had dropped his price to something like $1600, and still no takers.

Yep, and if you see one of these early strat heads they will command at least 5K up to north of 10K. 5K is probably wishful thinking. And, there are a few out there that are 'fakes' i.e. correct parts guitars, from multiple Charvels but a mutt just the same. That's why I stick with the pointies...they aren't faked. Unless you have someone trying to pass off a MIJ model series as a USA, in which case there are obvious 'tells'.
