Hey

I'm sure if I keep searching I can find it....but anyone have any input on this amp? I'm eyeballing this 2 ch Rec in my local craigslist

early 90s? coveted?

That looks to be a rev. F. It all depends on the price whether it's a good deal. I would want it for pretty cheap since it looks like the headshell has been stripped. Or, I suppose it could be a natural 'hardwood' cab?

Very close to my rectos serial (which is an early 93 revf and the best recto I've ever heard)

Ray -

Tolex has been stripped, if that's a hardwood cab then they are doing special plywood finishes. :(
Also, the logo looks really discolored/yellowed - probably from hard gigging/smoke. Likely why the tolex was stripped, it was probably beat to hell.

Tubes are ok, the far two on the right are rectifier tubes and they can look like a KT88 or 6L6 size-wise. You can still run EL34 or 6L6s.

If you can get a crazy good deal, I'd go for it... but you can find for around a grand MUCH nicer amps like this. No idea what they are asking but I would probably not pay over $800 for this and that's if I was able to play it in person and it sounded like the Voice of God.

One last thing - I like Rev F's a lot. My ractifier is likely from the very first run and it's an F. Sounds wonderful.

Pete

Small logo, attached power chord, should be a Rev F as people have said. My opinion here is that I wouldn't care what the amp looked like, physical condition, etc. as long as it was 100% functioning properly. These 2 channel Rev Fs sound fucking amazing. Mine is #635 and just flat out rocks. Put an EP booster in front and set it on the Orange High Gain channel and let your jaw hit the floor. I would think $800 would be a great price - I probably would not go over $1000, maybe a little more depending how it sounds.

Thanks all, good info offered...the asking price is $800;I may offer a lower price to help fund retolex and any amp service...this does look like an amp with mileage

This should have the Mark 3 trannies, so it would be the same as the fabled pre-500s.

Yeah, I'd buy that for 800 as long as it is fuctionally sound.

The rev F is a beast, I spent quite a while looking for one before I found mine.

Ray, if you still have your Kemper - I just posted some Rev F profiles on my webpage, also have some Mark III Coliseum ones too.

I can't speak for revisions D or E, but my revision C (#98) sounds very different from the rev F or later. There are definite circuit differences aside from the transformers. Actually, the F sounds more like what people think of as the 'recto sound' while my C sounds very different. It's a lot tighter and smoother but doesn't sound quite as 'huge' as an F.

While I mull it over, I'll check out the Pete KPA profiles
Thanks, donation forthcoming...

I also have my GAS set on another HP Special and a Carvin 8string, but likely only 1 thing to get with my budget

Maybe I'll go read some more of those recent anti-GAS threads to calm down

Get It!!!!!!! It looks road hard and put away wet. If it is 100 percent operational you can't beat it. Mojo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'd say.

I personally wouldn't pay more than $800 for it, given the condition. I'd be a LOT happier in the $700 range.....
