2x12 for EVH 50 Watt: Splawb vs Orange

Ok, I'm now looking at these two cabs.

Splawn has Hellatone 30s (Broken in Celestion G12 30 Anniversary) and the Orange has 2 V30's.

Thoughts???

The voicing of the amp would be complimented better by the Hellatones (H30s), but I'd just try to snag an EVH 212 cab.

Gotchya. I'm partial to larger 2x12's, hence looking at these 2 amps that are on CL ATM.

How about a Mesa Recto 2x12 cab. I use one with my EVH 100watter. I swapped out the V30s for Scumback M75s. Sounds killer! The EVH amps sound their best, imho, with greenback variety speakers. But some folks are liking how V30s sound with them.

My Orange 2x12 is heavy as hell and no casters, but sounds good, I would try the Splawn.

I should have a 5153 50w and Orange 212 coming this week or so, will post some thoughts then. I've heard the 5153 can be harsh with Vintage 30s, and everybody seems to comment on how well the EVH 212s match the amplifier.

I have been using the EVH 4x12 and it's fantastic with the 5153. I used a Mesa 2x12 for a while but the EVH sounds better. I would wait for an EVH 2x12 if I were you.

I'm in this boat too. Got the head. Wondering. I find it hard to believe 70th anniversary G12H's are the best match for this head. Been thinking of just getting an oversized 2x12 from somewhere and filling it with a few different speakers and see what works.

The Splawn is OS, has the G12H 30 Anniversary speakers and is $400. I think it fits my goals best for the $$ as I want an OS cab with those speakers.

I am of the opinion as well that these amps 100 watt and 50 watt sound the best with the matching cabs. There's just something about the 2 together. I used a Mesa 2x12 recto cab with V30's for the past 2 years with my 100 watt. It sounded fine. Little on the harsh side nothing that couldn't be dialed out but my new EVH 2x12 cabs sound damn near identical to my EVH 4x12 cabs. Much better than the Mesa 2x12 for sure. The EVH 2x12's are advertised to sound just like the 4x12's and I think they pulled it off. But, I'm 40 and my ears are not what they used to be but I'm extremely pleased with them. I run them in stereo 1 amp and cab on each side of the stage. It sounds freakin huge.

I have a need for a 2x12 an also have a 100w 5153. A steal of an amp used these days.

As a side question and by no means a thread hijack attempt, does the greenback type cab, like the EVH play well with a MKIIC?

I would go for the Splawn. The Orange is nice, but I think it can sound a little directional and boxy.
