Look for some sound clips of 36w style amps. I love the tone of the 18w but it's not loud enough to keep up with the band. Was thinking the 36w would be perfect.

Anyone have any clips they could share or building experience with this style of amp?

TIA!

The 18 watters are still pretty lite. I say you slave it into a 100 watt poweramp and call it a day!!

I actually have an 18watt slaved into a 50w power amp that sounds pretty damn good. Just have a scrap PA amp that is getting turned into something and figured a 36w, with half power switch, would probably kill live with the band : )

And Scotty, it's too bad you aren't closer bro, my little Voodoo 50w Bogen Vplexi would blow your doors off. :D

Yep project build and this circuit looks relatively easy. Just wondering if I should stick to the TMB or do the TMB ef86, you know Vox on one side Marshall on the other...

ah ha - so you tried it! I was thinking 18 watter for my cover band, but your's isn't loud enough huh... Guess I better rethink my angle too - time to start looking at 36 watts. Thing is - my Peavey Classic 30 head sounds awesome cranked, but it's a little too loud - maybe we need a 22-25 watter...

You know, with a normal band it may be loud enough, but my drummer hits HARD and there is no way 18w is gonna cut it lol. I could just slave it into a larger power amp but then I gotta carry a rack to the gigs and I got enough crap to keep up with as it is. I'm thinking the 36w with some added gain and a good PPIMV should do the trick nicely.

Don't you have a kickass preamp to finish wiring up? ;) :D

This is essentially what a Guytron GT100 is. 18watt EL84 section slaved to a 100watt EL34 output.

The best part is that the FX loops are placed after the 18watt section, so direct recording is a breeze :)

If you wanna be really cool. Get yourself a 100 Watt Marshall used on ebay or something, and stick some THD Yellow Jacket adaptors in and run EL84s. It'll be 36 watts that way (I believe)

The Yellow Jackets are adaptors that you hook up to your EL34 or 6l6 (or kt88 etc..) amps, and they allow you to run 6v6 or EL84 valves in the power section, apparently they work extremely well, so the same amp at much lower wattage.

i was looking into this myself and a lot of people said they barely knocked down the volume - which is kinda hard to believe

Wonder if they would work in a DSL50?

they should work fine - we need to find out from Ed D how much volume they really knock off.

100 Watts is twice as loud in terms of percieved volume as 10 watts, it's an exponential increase.

However, 100 watts to 36 watts will mean you can drive the valves alot harder at non stadium volumes without an attenuator, you will sacrifice a fair amount of headroom however.

You see alot of guys modding their amps for lower wattage to get better tones at lower volumes.
