You should trade your buddy for the JVM. Then in like 2 weeks when you hear him ripping balls with the Peters, you will be like oh shit, I still don't know how to EQ an amp, after 100 amps! And then probably buy another amp. The beat goes on...

About 10 yrs ago i sold all my gear and offed my jcm800 my markiii red stripe and my mako dorado to get married... Ive had a rough time money wise for a long time and ive just bought what i could afford and have been able to buy some cool amps back and didnt wanna buy back what ive already had so im trying new amps... The gnl doesnt have enough gain for what i like.... I dont get how this is a mortal sin.... I like what i like and have been in alot of successful bands with the tone i enjoy...

If we are sharing, well shit let's do this. I had no less than 47 amps. Plexi's, a Dumble, og Fender Tweeds. Then guess what happened. A big flood came, the river rose and all my amps were destroyed. And I didn't have insurance on any of them. So I lost my ass. You are probably thinking to yourself right now...okay so why do I care?

Exactly.

Wow dude ur quite the keyboard commando lol. I love trolls
Why do you think I am trolling? Other than the fact that you don't care? And other than the fact that if you have owned more than 100 amps, and cannot dial in an adequate modern metal tone, that maybe you are impossible to please and should look more inward toward your playing?

I mean i am always learning new things sure but my technique for what i do is pretty good. Ive had a pretty good music career i feel.... I could be wrong but i dont believe so...

I get it mang. There's no way every amp out there can please everyone. If there was, this place would be pretty boring.

It's not like you created a thread said "I can't stand my Peters"

You're just asking about the JVM. Fair enough. Did you check out 46and2's HiWatt clips? Modern without necessarily a lot of gain. To me, there is more gain in Thrash than Modern. But modern definitely requires a lot of attack, percussion, tightness, etc. and is not overly hissy, buzzy, hairy or bright. Something I equate to good transformers among other things. Just my opinion.

The Peters I played once was an amazing amp and well built and I honestly know very little about the amp you bought.

If you're set for a JVM I'd recommend holding out for the Satriani sig version than the regular one.

However I'm a bit confused by what you're actually looking for. Like James mentioned, the Conquering Dystopia recordings really aren't that gainy. The GNL should have more than enough gain for that and definitely tight enough.

Do you play a 7 string or A/A# tuning at all? Sounds like a stupid question I know, but I had friends chasing 7 string type of tones with a regular tuned 6 string and of course he never got there until he tuned way down...

Yes i play 7 strings and baritones 25.5 scale keisel tc-70 is tuned to A my 27 inch jericho 7 is tuned to G and my 26.5 inch ibanez 6 string is tuned to drop A

The jvm was an offer and ive never played one youtube vids seem good so i figured id ask is all

For me I think the JVM can pretty much do anything. Too many videos out there to prove that from metal, to super downtuned stuff. Go check them out.

It's funny, my two all time favorite amps are the 5150 and the JVM. Of which I played a 5150 Block Letter (no difference) straight from pretty much the day they were released for 10 years straight, tons of gigs, rehearsals and recordings. In all that time I owned an SLO, VHT UL, Framus, Engl, Egnater, Splawn (loved my QR), Boogies, other Marshalls but always right back to my 5150. Oddly the JSX eventually replaced it and in turn was replaced by the SigX which in turn was replaced by the JVM.

I guess I've had the JVM for close to 12 years now. It played well over 200+ shows, not to mention rehearsals and recordings and not one issue. My playing out days are done but I still play several times a week and it's still here and working.

No, it's not for everyone. No amp is. In a two guitar band the 5150 and the JVM are match made in heaven. I mainly stay on OD1 Amber...just incredible for hard rock to metal. I'd say OD2 Green, Amber or Red with an pedal to tighten would be pretty mean. I one time ran my JVM through an old Mode 4 GK100 cab, massively to heavy for me.

JVM, 5150, Sig X and the Splawn QR are my favorites amps I've owned in that order. I really liked the Powerball as well and for a time really dug the JSX w/6L6's only. I can't recommend the JVM enough, but it's not for everyone and as I said, no amp is. In fact of all the amps I've owned, none have been bad...it's just what you prefer.

Two amps that peaked my interest are the new Hi-Watt high gainer...and I've kinda always had this thing for the looks of Hi-Watt and the Peavey Invective. Basically a modern 5150. Just don't really have amp gas anymore though, so we'll see.

Yeah id love to find a mako dorado again... Thats the only amp i think id rebuy at this time

Well if i cant swap the peters for something i know id like im gonna just keep it and have a gain stage added i think

I understand you might prefer the amp to be something different for its flavor, but you're barking up the wrong tree about adding a gain stage. You need to turn the gain down, be careful not to boost it too much, and try the other things I mentioned. Adding a gain stage will just work against you. That first clip you sent me proves you weren't thinking correctly about how to dial it in. I've never heard so much fuzz out of one of my amps. Compare to the 2 clips I posted in this thread, which use a lot less gain in them.

Also as I told you in the FB messages, I'll refuse to service the amp in the future if you have it modified. I've had people modify an amp, then later a subsequent owner wants it "fixed" and I have to "decode" what was done...there have been some horror stories. I'm too old to be doing this kind of thing anymore. It's your amp, so do with it what you want. But I want this post to stand as a clear warning.

Thats fine i dont plan on sending to canada for service anyway we have a great amp builder/tech an hr away from me. Also its sounds alot like a sovtek mig 100h i had and once i had a gain stage added it tightened up and lost alot of fizz.... Id assume its because i didnt have to drive the preamp so hard.... But the tech will let me know what he thinks.... Or once jerry at fja mods reopens his shop ill send it off to him...

Both john and jerry know what i like and how to get the amp there i trust both of them... I did try your suggestions and they were counterproductive to achieving what im looking for....

Well think its got a new home with another amp builder. Having a amp built to my likings
