anyone played these and your thoughts on them? I dig the g12h30s with just about everything I have played. I have a ss100 and love it, and have read that this amp loves v30s. most friedman cabs are the v30 and greenback x pattern, right?

right now my cab has 4 g12h30s and they sound great. I just saw a modern avatar 4 x 12 come up locally with the greenback v30 x pattern. anyone own or play with both?? thoughts?

I dig punchy, articulate and well defined tones.

-by G12H30's, are you talking about the "ANNIE'S" ? if so I can see where they would be a good fit for any amp with a dark voicing or has smooth gain or any amp that you wanna add bite to, didn't like them at all with a Marshall-
-G12H 30-55hz-my favorite speaker, get one in 8ohms and it will dominate the mix-(and I mean that in the best possible way-(4x12-two 16 ohm Marshall V-30's on the bottom, one 8ohm, 55hz, greenback on the top along side one empty hole)-this was the best combo for my FRIEDMAN JJ-(yes, i did try it with two-75hz-16ohm greenback's on top aka Friedman, the V-30's over powered the 2-75hz-16ohm-greenbacks on top in a "B" cab, there are people getting better results with an "A" cab, or 3-greenbacks & one V-30,

3 greenbacks and one vintage 30?? wow, never heard of that one, interesting.

The Friedman cabs have the 2 greenbacks on the top and the 2 V30's on the bottom. Not X pattern.
I have that setup in an EVH 4x12 and it sounds great.
That Avatar cab would be a great compliment to your cab with the 4x G12H30's, and should sound stellar with the SS100.
If you don't like it, I'm sure you could move it easily.

That is really odd. I've used the the GB's on top, and V30's on bottom in four cabs so far (two straights, and two slants), I never felt like the v30's dominated.

Same here in a Friedman cab. Great sounding combo as is the 70th Anny G12H30s and V30s in an X Pattern.

This is such a weird thing. I've got 2 RI Greenbacks and 2 V30s (not X pattern) in my Bogner cab. I don't notice the V30s overpowering the Greenbacks at all. But, several years ago I ran an all V30 cab and an all Greenback cab (both 4x12s) with a Dual Recto, and the V30 cab buried the Greenback cab. Maybe when you have the 2 Greenbacks on top you don't notice the db difference as much because the Greenbacks are closer to your ears or something. Consequently, I dig the Greenback/V30 combo a la Friedman cabs a lot.

Were the two cabs the same (besides the speakers)?

In live situations, I've moved the mic from a bottom v30 to a top GB, and had no drop in perceived volume.

I have a marshall 1960a with 2 heritage and 2 v30's in an x pattern and a trace Elliot angled with to v30's on bottom and 2 greenbacks on top.
I prefer the sound of the v30 greenback combo ,
But the heritage v30 combo cuts better in a live mix.

Greenback cab was Bogner. V30 cab was a beat up Marshall basket weave.

-yup- in this mix, I hear 60%, V-30's,... & 40% Greenback-

-V-30's-(with the same ohm rating)-are louder & more prominent, in this mix, with the non-proprietary V-30's, being even more prominent-(the Freq sheet's that Scott Splawn & other's did, it show's that every version of V-30, to be not only different-(I believe there were 5 versions when the frequency response & mapping was done)-but also, with a progressively harsher mid-spike.
-The beauty & secret sauce of the V-30 + GREENBACK mix, is there individual, but very complimentary voicing's, the V-30's firm & tight low end & extended highs is perfect for what a typical low wattage, 75hz, mid-heavy, mid voiced-GREENBACK-lacks,

-The dreaded V-30's MID-SPIKE, gets blended & diluted with the GREENBACK's strength, a mid/mid-high melting distortion that just gets meaner & nastier-(the good nasty,... like the preachers daughter)-the more you push, the more she wants & loves it,...And!! she not only tells you, she rewards you with a scream that defined Rock & Roll,

-so, what kind of tone do you want ?
-a V-30 tone, with the Grit & attitude of greenback?
-a GREENBACK tone, but with the muscular roar & BIG BALLS of a V-30?

Look's like I'm gonna have to get scientific, and break out the SPL meter.
