Played a gig last saturday with my trusty Splawn Nitro. The guys who brought the backline got Laboga cabs, and I was pretty impressed by the uber-tight bass response these cabs deliever. The Laboga cab reminded me a lot on the ENGL cab I used to own.

What other cabs do deliever tight basses? Usually I play thru Mesa Boogie cabs which now sound like crap to my ears...

VHT Fatbottom is the tightest, most aggressive cab I've ever played, probably due to being front-loaded. I replaced the stock P50Es with K100s though.

BOOM, you just took the words outta my mouth!! Nice call... I was thinking the Deliverance or FB and there you are, on it like a fat kid on a Smartie

Front-loaded Uberkab, Diezel, pretty much anything. Especially the Uberkab with its 75's. +1 on putting 100's in.

Anything front loaded will tighten things up.......

Sorry for the ignorance, but can someone explain that to me? Am looking for a cab, and what I would dig is something tight and aggressive.

Is there a reason front-loaded cabs are more like this?

Front loaded is like trying to yell to your friend across a loud room, rear loaded is like when you cup your hands around your mouth to direct the sound so that more of it goes straight to your friend and not dispersed into the room around you.

The major thing with front loaded cabs is that they disperse more evenly, so there is a wider "viewing angle" if you will. While if you are outside of the "viewing angle" for a rear loaded cabinet, the sound can seem muddy and lacking in clarity. Try kneeling down in front of the rear loaded cab though, and your perspective of the tone might change. Rear loaded are just more directional is all, but the cabinet design also plays a larger part in the sound than in front loaded designs.

Yup. Mine are loaded with V30s and it doesn't get tighter. Best sounding cab for modern metal tones I have ever used.

VHT/Fryette all the way... My absolute all time favorite cabinet is the Deliverance 4x12. I just got a fatbottom as well, and I think I prefer the Deliverance actually to be honest!

This.

I think of rear loaded more for close mic recording. Front loaded V30's is about as tight as it gets in a live room

To the OP, my apologies......was a late night and an early morning. Please excuse my lack of manners.

Thanks for the clarifications, guys.

Believe me or not, the tightest 4x12 I've played so far was the EVH 5153 4x12. At low volume they are not that tight, but once you start moving the volume knob to the right the cab comes alive and is tight as hell!!!
The most aggressive I've played is the Harry Joyce 4x12 with Scholz speakers. There's some mid frequency going on those speakers, along with the extended bass response that is just incredible!
By the way, we've tried the cabs using an eight strings Ibanez with a blasting loud 5150 III and a DR head.

I love my deliverance cab! I highly recommend. Though I am planning on swapping out the p50s for gk100s soon. Not that the p50s are bad, justprefer the gk100s for my drop A# tuning lol
