Pictue the 5150 as a preamp for the HH

That`s really all there is to it. Yes, it also powers the dry cabs, but the output line signal is the equivalent of a preamp signal
HH
so 5150 > HH > Cab ?
Thanks, and sorry for my non understanding
Halford
HH=solid state power amp. (He describes it in the original post)
I dont see it described in the original post?
Out of curiosty (as always

) why run through a solid state power amp? why not a tube one?
Halford
because tubes can potentially colour your original tone. while this is all good and great for preamp's being run into a tubed poweramp, with W/D D/D W/D rig like dave is running you dont want any colouration. you want the original tube tone of the dry cabinets, and the same dry tone to be wet-mixed in the wet cabinets.
the headroom provided by these high tube monsters lead to high maintenance costs with retubing and that alone can change your sound in a negative way.
so in daves account (and mine as well) i prefer solid state - and the H&H V800 is as good as it gets as far as the least amount of colouration as possible, stability, easy use, high headroom to keep up with the source amplifier, low maintenance, and any colouration that IS present will not do so in a way that changes the original tones with more tube colouration.
