One speaker is original and the other is a Carvin GS12-75-8.
I bought some of those Carvin GS1275 speakers when Carvin had that $20 blow out. It's a really scooped speaker and IMO sounds pretty mean and aggressive with my 5150. I don't think I'd want it as my main speaker though.

Here's a short 5150 clip driving the GS1275.

All good suggestions but seems like a lot of work to make you like an amp. I have the combo, the head and a 5150 III like yourself. If you have an OD pedal lying around I would try to put it before the amp and see if it helps smooth things out. It just might not be the amp for you. Here's a song I did with it when I was too lazy to bring in either of my halfstacks. It's a stock 5150 combo. No pedals just the amp on the lead channel by itself. I double tracked the rhythm and the lead. The lead starts at about the 2:35 mark.

For the money you cant go wrong, I bought my last one for $425 and it was mint!! The are closed back have great thump and they're loud as hell!!

Use the rhythm channel with the crunch switch on, and keep the presence no higher than 5 and the resonance just above that. I get some incredible and non fizzy tones out of mine.

Also, if he wants to get rid of it, I would trade my JSX head for it...

+1  Also use the normal gain input.

I gigged with them for about 12 years.
Best tubes IMO Ruby 12ax7 pre, Sovtek coin base 6L6/5881 power amp produces the best tone with least sizzle.
These amps eat preamp tubes, the sound quality quickly diminishes if not fresh. I rotated two new ones in and moved them down the line every coupla months.
That said, EH were my least favorite 12ax7 in this amp.

Try plugging into a cab, the stock speakers are shit and I think the dimensions are incorrect or something. Mine sounded better with different speakers, but awesome through a different cab.

Got home late tonight so I didn't get too much time with it. I had a Fulldrive 2 handy so tried boosting it. Still not diggin it. Tomorrow I will try plugging it into my Mesa standard 4x12.

The two previous clips sound great, nothing like what I'm experiencing. I'm thinking something may be going on with the amp itself.

Thanks to all once again for the help.
