So does anyone use a distortion pedal with the 5150 iii 50 watt? I was thinking of setting the clean channel as really clean and then getting a Suhr Riot as another distortion channel…. Just to get a different kind of flavor going.

Anyway do anything like this?

I use an Xotic RC Booster. it's on all the time on my pedalboard. I'm not using it for more distortion but for a boost, it really does bring out more of the harmonic spectrum of the EVH.
on the Green and the Blue channel, sometime I add an Xotic AC for a bit of that bluesy Carlton/Ford type, medium gain tones are great with this.

Nice. I actually have a RC Boost too. It definitely kills with this amp

This is exactly what I do with my 50 watt EVH. I have the green setup clean and run a suhr riot, wampler plextortion and a MXR micro amp. I then use the red for a solo channel. All in all it is nice setup and sounds killer, just a bummer that I don't use the blue that much because of the volume jump. I guess I need a midi setup or maybe they will come out with a limited 50 watt with 3 separate channels.

^ Jason's idea is the best... 50 w 3 channels that are separate! Or at least a "crunch" channel w/o the POP up the way the Laney Ironhearts are setup.

I mostly use my 5150 III 50 for time killing @ my GFs (or w/e is the right term), so the lack of 3 channels isn't a true concern and I actually have a Mod Tone pedal that I use (the High Gain) with the gain turned low. Why? Because I like the EQ control vs most OD pedals that just have a tone knob. With the gain low, the output @ btwn 4 & 5 (10 to 11 o'clock), it works well w/o thinning out the tone the way any TS od pedal thins the tone.

I have fiddled with using my Daddy-O (which is my fave OD pedal EVER) with the 5150 and it works well. Again that has EQ controls.
