5150 III 50 watt....Why shouldn't I buy one?

I flat out love mine, I run it through an EVH 4x12 with the stock EVH speakers and a Splawn 4x12 with V30/H30 X pattern. I live on Ch3 and have it set as you plan, Ch1 clean Ch3 everything else. I'm on Ch3 98% of the time, I hardly play clean to be honest. It's the first high gain amp I've owned that doesn't need an OD pedal in front of add some compression and saturation it just kills, tight punchy and mean yet despite that absurd amount of gain it's still articulate.

I have both. Besides it being smaller, I always wonder why many don't even consider the 100w. It sounds just as good as the 50w at low volume, if not better. If I had to choose one, the 50w would definitely go. I bought it for size alone. I use it for smaller gigs and I like how it sits on top of the 2x12 with the tilt back feature.

I'm interested in one of these. I wouldn't be using it live, only home for fun. I'm curious about the headphone output, what's it like?

Not trying to talk you out of it.........but if I remember correctly from the old HCAF days, you are a big fan of the VHT/Fryette Pitbull CL. I am as well. I actually have a VHT and a Fryette version of the 50/CL (both without EQ). The Fryette is the new tweaked version. I owned the EVH 50w for about 3 months and it sounded like a toy compared to those amps. To me it was the equivalent of a good sounding distortion pedal. No doubt a fun amp because it is so forgiving, but my ears quickly grew tired of the synthetic sounding gain. I actually prefer an old Carvin Legacy we have over the EVH.

Honestly nothing to write home about. Its boarder line usable and thats being generous. That said you can use an 1\8th to 1\4 headphone adapter plugged into the headphone jack on the back of the amp and using the pre amp out into your computer and using the Two Notes plug in you get great headphone tones IMHO.

Posts like this make me laugh.

The first Pitbull 100 I bought was in 91 that I got from St Charles guitar exchange in St Louis. This was before Steve and made VHT a known name . Ive owned so many amps its its sad actually. Diezel, Firdman, Cameron, Roccaforte, Splawn, Bogner, Soldano, Mesa, Dr Z, Carvin, JVM, Deliverance, Soultone, Reinhardt, Badcat, Egnater.... and more Im sure Im forgetting. This amp doesnt all sound like a "good distortion pedal".

Good God thats funny.

Different strokes. He asked for opinions and I gave him mine........only because I know (if memory serves correct) that he likes the Pitbull CL. Of the amps you mentioned, I have owned 12 of them. I stick to my opinion on the EVH 50.

Like you say to each his own but man that makes it even more interesting to me when you say owned those amps let alone a distortion pedal and say this amp sounds like a pedal. Even the amp I least liked of the ones I've owned I would never say it sounded like a "good distortion pedal"

Man I'm surprised by people everyday.

I'd be curious as to what your current rig is.

When I had one, I really liked it! Great sounding amp with the 2x12 cab. The channel sharing didn't bother me all that much.

Lots of good input in this thread.

I am still pretty sure I am going to buy one and the matching 2x12....hell, the kickstand alone elevates the cool factor    .

Thanks for the input. Now, has anyone had any experience with the 112?
