NICE!! That sounds really, really good, man. But I'd like to hear what you get if yo uplay that riff on channel 2 with drive set just a LITTLE bit lower than on channel 3. I think channel 2 has a little something going on in the upper mids/high end that might really nail Ed's tone. (disclaimer: I have this amp and that's how I do it...lol ;)

Thanks again for all the positive feedback!! As you learned Nitro, definitely Mexico for these...I just got home and looked at the back panel to be sure I wasn't wrong earlier. And FWIW, so far no problemo with mine whatsoever. No footswitch issues, no faulty tubes. Nada. Of course I've only had it a few weeks but it seems very solid.

As for the 100w vs 50w, I dunno, there are some differences others would have to chime in on with the details, dudes who happen to have both (?) I suppose. If you visit TGP you could read up a bit (I'm not a member but that's where I went to do some homework before purchasing), you'll find enough info on that to keep you busy for days. Channel 1 has a volume level issue (for some) on the 50's. Channel two on the 50's has more gain. Channel one on the 100w has more gain, etc. You know how 100 vs 50 watt opinions go, some guys just prefer 100 watt heads and will always insist anything less doesn't cut it, etc. Some dig both. No right or wrong. I think you'd have no problem getting the same tone from the 100w, just use something from the Greenback family for speakers and a medium to low output pickup.

Thanks IceMan! I can definitely try that, maybe in a couple of weeks or so (kinda in the middle of tracking a new tune now with the head and want to leave things where they are until completed, I'm weird like that   ).

I agree, channel two is pretty mean sounding in a good way too! I actually took a close look my settings again when I got home today and channel three (for the vid clip) actually has the gain at 8:45, lol!! Close enough. I didn't figure on duping that old skool, Plexi tone, I mean c'mon, these amps sounds nothing like THOSE! Just wanted something close enough for shits and giggles though. Somewhere out there Rockstah is having a chuckle and that's cool. If he were here he'd prolly make a suggestion to help get it closer.

Sounds great! Seems like many here went from giving the EVH 5153 50W much love, to "meh...." I think it's such a bargain, that people seem to discount it, because of it's light price tag. I have a feeling if the 100W wasn't around and they had this priced at $2K, it'd get nothing BUT praise! :D Either way, I LOVE mine!

BTW: This whole topic of where it's been made...."Is it still made in Vietnam...or Mexico?" Doesn't even seem to matter the way I see it. Regardless, they are made VERY well and have a great track record. Mine was built in Vietnam and it's built like a tank...very solid. I've had ZERO issues with mine. I know it sometimes matters on some products where they are made, but as far as I know, all EVH's have a solid reputation for being reliable.

I tend to agree with you. While I totally understand the "Buy American" mentality and I try to do so whenever I can, not everybody can afford or plain want to throw down $4,000 for a Friedman BE, Bogner, or SLO. When a TRUELY great sounding amp comes along - made in Nam/Mexico and costs $999....it's easy for some to slag it. But for me, it's like the tube vs. digital debate. If it sounds great - who gives a shit? If your thing is collecting American-made, boutique, tube-only amps - great! It just doesn't make the other tools out there any less useful......

I just found out from EVH(Fender)that the 50 watts are now made in mexico vs vietman. They are made in the same plant as the 100 watts are made. Can you achieve the same type of sound using the 100 watt 5150 III.

Yes. Only real differences between the amps are channels 1 and 2. Channel 1 on the 100 watt breaks up just a bit sooner than on the 50 watt. And channel 2 on the 50 watt has a touch more gain on tap than the 100 watt does. I like channel 2 on my 50 watt better just for that reason. You can use a boost on channel 2 of the 100 watt to get the same results though. Other than that the amps pretty much sound identical. But being that the 50 watt is a 50 watt and the 100 watt is a 100 watt there's probably a little less ooomph in the 50 watt but you can dial that in with the resonance knob.

Love the tone. Actually tried those settings on mine this afternoon and it sounds pretty damn good.
Switched between ch 2 at my usual settings and ch 3 and there IS a difference. Don't know which one I like best but damn ch 3 sounds nice.

For the money, I really don't believe that there is another mass produced amp (50 or 100) that can touch the 5153. From clean to ultra mean, this amp will do it very well. The proof is in how many touring professionals from different styles of music are on the road with them.

Thanks dude! I hear ya, tough choice, both are nice. I've been enjoying three lately with the gain low, it's just so nice to be able to run guitar > amp, adjust guitar volume, done. I haven't messed around much with two but I do think it's better suited of the two for pedals and I really liked what I heard when I fired up the Jetter Red2 pedal into it set warmer for some chewy, low gain, fusiony type tones.

Tough to argue with that. Serious bang for buck amps. Quite a few pros using them, true, I even spotted a clip of one of my personal favorites tearing it up in clinic on a 5153, Vinnie Moore.

Great Playing! Amp sounded great, where-ever it came from

I think that sounded really good!

I parallel what Victim wrote comparing the 100w vs 50w. I would like to add that the fx loop on the 50w is solid state vs tube on the 100w. I think the 100w fx loop sounds slightly better.

The sole reason for switching 50w production to Mexico was because Vietnam wasn't keeping up with the orders.

Vinnie Moore could make a transistor amp sound like a 5000$ rig. Great feel and hands on that guy! He made those JCM2000's sound amazing with UFO.

Too many good amps around these days... ;).

I love when people comment on small tonal nuances based on internet clips...the amp whisperers.

I thought it sounded great...well done!!!

I know right? Like that recent thread comparing the DSL and the EVH. Many sounded like they were ready to junk their current amps and get a DSL based on that one internet comparison vid
