It should be here next week and I'm curious what some of you other owners prefer for pickups with it?
Mostly using a Les Paul Standard with Dimarzio 36th anniversary PAFs right now.

I was looking for hotter pickups (Nailbomb, Aldrich or Afwayu) for this guitar when I had my ElectraDyne. Iit didn't really have enough preamp gain for me but I don't think that will be an issue with the EVH lol.

FYI I'm not looking for 80's cock rock, brown sound or down tuned djent.
More into post rock/metal ala Isis, Neurosis and some more modern stuff like Sylosis and Gojira.

Any III owners out there prefer low or medium output over high?
Alnico 5 or ceramic?

I have a 100w 5150iii and have on my guitars aldrich's pickups, it's really awsome!!!

BK alnico Nailbombs were crushing with the 5153 I had

I have one of my LP's loaded with WCR's ... other with stock 490/498's.. both sound great and amp responds good to both sets. It's a great amp for the $

It is hard to go wrong aside of too hot in the pickup, unless you want ultra compression. It plays well with a tele or BKP, dimarzio SD, Strat pups.

Just a very versatile amp.

Congrats

With my stock Peavey Wolfgang pu's my 50 water screamed. Got rid of it though and have another axe fx II on the way

I've got a LP with a WCR Godwood and another with an MCP Afwayu and they both sound killer. Great amp for the $.

Both my 100w and my buddies 50w sound crazy good with EMG's.

As far as Gojira goes, they use the 5153 with the standard Duncan JB/59 combo.

Hmm not really a fan of actives... Seems like most of you are using higher output pu's.
Ill definatly experiment when it gets here and post the results.

I have the 50 watter and I use mostly Seymour Duncan JB's in my guitars.

My 50 watter sounds great with JB59s, Dimarzio CL/LF, EMG 81/60, and BKP Miraclemans. I absolutely HATED how SD Blackouts sounded when I first tried out my Carvin with it. Definitely would stay away from that combination.

I've used god knows how many pickups with my 5150 III. If you go to YouTube and check out my channel (Joel ducote) and check out the demos that I've done. There are probably 20 different pickups that I've demoed through the 5153.

Awesome ! Will do

I run mainly DiMarzio AirNortons in the neck and Tone Zones in the bridge (6s & 7s) and I think they sound FANTAB through my 50 watt 5150 III.

The 6 and 8 string EMGs sound pretty good too, but I'm a FANBOY for the AN/TZ combo.

I really like the D Activator set with it. That amp is really not that choosey with pickups though. Its a pretty friendly amp with most humbuckers.

The Evh is a forgiving mp... It sounds great with a lot of pickups., its not really picky like some other amps can be.

^quoted for truth, the stock Ibby pickups on my one S series sound AMAZING through that amp while through other amps those pickups almost sound like 8 bit sound samples of what guitars sound like.
