Is this normal? V1 and V2 are making this loud clanky sound no matter what tubes I put in each spot. And every 30 seconds or so, it makes a pop.

overthinking things or just looking for an excuse to get a different amp?
Sorry that I didn't reply. I wanted to get a 6L6 version, since I already have a few EL34 amps.Metlupass2":i67ions5 said:Return that thing and buy mine like I offered you in the PM you never bothered to respond to when you were looking.
To be fair, did he have a WTB ad up? Or did you just outright solicit him?Metlupass2":3k0rqqs6 said:Return that thing and buy mine like I offered you in the PM you never bothered to respond to when you were looking.

It didn't do it with the stock tubes. After swapping a bunch of different tubes around, I figured out that the popping noise happened when I had either a JJ ecc803s or a Sovtek LPS in v2. Both of which were brand new tubes.hammered":1zw4g8wi said:ledvedder":1zw4g8wi said:Is this normal? V1 and V2 are making this loud clanky sound no matter what tubes I put in each spot. I’m gonna assume it wasn’t making the “pop” sound after you unboxed it and played it with the stock tubes but after you started tube rolling ? Even with the stock tubes back in place it’s still making that popping?

Really? I read somewhere that the LPS is preferred in v2 by some folks.napalmdeath":184rg87r said:ledvedder":184rg87r said:It didn't do it with the stock tubes. Neither of which belong in V2. Long plate tubes are prone to added noise in gain stages, due to their construction. Of course those 2, being long plates.. well.. you do the math.

And what would be a good spot for the ecc803s.
See, now I've read all over the internet that different power tubes didn't make much difference.LP Freak":8kz8cnyh said:Well to further confuse things, I just popped in a set of Winged C 6L6GC’s andNo more of those annoying hi’s and they brought the mids forward a bit.
Only one way to find out. Everyone hears things different too. And some can’t hear at all.ledvedder":ujg3n9f2 said:See, now I've read all over the internet that different power tubes didn't make much difference.LP Freak":ujg3n9f2 said:Well to further confuse things, I just popped in a set of Winged C 6L6GC’s andNo more of those annoying hi’s and they brought the mids forward a bit.

Yep, it does sound great. I'm not really looking to change it. Mostly I'm looking to do 2 things. Quiet the hiss and maybe lower the gain a bit on channel 3. Otherwise, channels 1 and 2 are perfect.hammered":2ce4xncw said:ledvedder":2ce4xncw said:See, now I've read all over the internet that different power tubes didn't make much difference.LP Freak":2ce4xncw said:Well to further confuse things, I just popped in a set of Winged C 6L6GC’s andNo more of those annoying hi’s and they brought the mids forward a bit.

Didn`t you say it sounded great in your other thread when you got it a few days ago ? I`d just leave it as is , play it and have fun .
