Anybody done/doing this? I want the matching 2x12 but none are available here at the minute so I may grab a Marshall 1936 with V30s in the mean time that's available local and cheap.

Thoughts?

Mine is paired with my Bogner 2x12 with V30s. Sounds great to me. I have nothing to compare it to but I think it sounds really good.

I until last night, I was using mt 5153 with a Recto cab, loaded with V30s. It sounded good. I picked up a Peavey 5150 cab, and prefer that to the Recto cab. The V30s sounded good, I just prefer darker tones.

I like the EVH w/ V30's in a band setting better than anything else I've tried so far. Punches through (to my ears) better than others, even the stock cab. I use it through a Mesa 4x12 as well as a Carvin vertical 2x12 w/ V30's. You may have to set the high's a bit lower though.

Really....I may have to give this Peavey cab a try.

The EVH 2x12's have been popping up on ebay quite a bit the past few weeks. There is a black one on there now.

Not in the UK :aww:

SFW, did you sort your issue with the Nova System? I have one and only got to try it at very low levels this evening. I didn't get any of the weird chorusing you reported but I did get something else odd - when I went to the levels menu, it seemed like it just wasn't receiving any level, yet it sounded fine?! It didn't seem to want to show any input level, so I couldn't really set the input gain by sight. I got it sounding pretty close from what I could tell compared to the FX loop switched off but I'll know more tomorrow at the gig.

Do you happen to know if this amp's loop is line or instrument level? Maybe using the drive input would be better?

I'm playing mine with V30's (Fender Tone Master) and it sounds great to me. I also have mesa 2x12 with a v30 and a SB H75 that sounds really good as well. I like the TM better though since it's a 16ohm cab and this amp comes alive through a 16ohm cab!! If you're still looking at the 1936 cab, I would pass.

5150 or 5150II with Vin30's > 5150 III with Vin30's

I didn't like the III with vin30s. that's exactly why I sold it

I've been playing mine thru my Port City 2x12 w/V30's while waiting for my 5153 cab to arrive. I thought it sounded pretty good with the V30's myself. :dunno:

About a year and half ago I bought a used Marshall 1936 cab to use with my EVH 100 watt for smaller shows or for when I just didn't feel like dragging my EVH 4x12. I'm not sure what speakers were in it though cause I hated it and immediately took it back and got a new Mesa Recto 2x12 cab with V30's and I really dig it. The Marshall 2x12 just sounded very thin and nasaly. If I remember correctly the damn cab was to thin to set the amp on! Lol! The Mesa Cab sounds great. Big and full. I gig with it quite a bit. It doesnt sound as good to me as my EVH 4x12 but the drunks in the audience are never gonna know the differnce. I'm on a back order list for the EVH 2x12 from Guitar Center.

I had a 1936 cab for about a day   I thought it was the greatest thing, super light, oversized, looked cool etc. Until I got it home and pulled one of the handles to see what it was made out of; MDF board  Traded it for the tonemaster cab the next day. Mine had 75watt celestions and it didn't sound very good. One of the few times I didn't do my homework before buying...

V30s make it sound more modern and aggressive as compared to GBs. They both sound good to me; I have both.

i run my 5150 with V30s, i started with a V30/G12H mix but preferred just the V30s after trying it.

The 1936 cabs are pretty shitty to be honest...i'd try to find a decent cab with V30s instead

The v30s smoothed out the high end of my 5150 III (100w), was my favorite speaker to mic when recording - tamed the fizz a good bit.

I have a v30 4x12 and a greenback 4x12..Both sound great with my EVH... I probably prefer v30s

I second this opinion. I bought the Marshall 1936 at first to try to save a few bucks. Took it back and paid a little extra for the Mesa Recto 2x12. Well worth the extra cash. Now... come on Guitar center with my damn EVH 2x12. :gethim:
