Too much fx mix. Turn that down you get closer. Funny, he is clearly not as versed on the 5150 stuff.

Will watch later. Funny as lots of us dog the 5150 album tone, or at least consider it one of their least favorite. But when this album came out it was so different in the grand scheme of rock music - and also happened to be one of my first CD's so there's that.

5150 rocked. It sounds like a beer a commercial in all the best ways. Sure it’s a bit cheesy, but I’d rather be cheesy and happy than serious and depressed.

The tone in Live Without a New is effin' fantastic. On the 5150 album? Not so much. And I really hate the Simmons pads. I think Al used them on 1984 too, but they're much more outfront, processed and sterile on 5150 than on 1984.

Not my favorite Edward tones but I like Jim’s vids.

I dug the sound of it initially, when it came out, but the whole vibe of the band changed to where I couldn’t get into it.

Agreed. They should have renamed the band with each singer change. You’ve got your Van Hagar and for the next switch that happened, Tran Halen would’ve been fitting.
Van Tran. Then get the sneaker tie in to promote the tour.

.... Tran Halen would’ve been fitting.

That, or Van Gaylen

IIRC, Ted's condition for producing 5150 was that they change the name to Van Hagar. They would not, so he went with Dave. You can't argue with 5150's success, and it's been said that Mick Jones only parachuted in once it was all done. But I kind of wish Ted had produced it.
