Ok... So I changed out some of the no name tubes in my new 5150III this afternoon. Talk about make a huge difference! Channel 2 now has more gain available. The popping when switching channels has stopped. Channel three smoothed out a bit, and is not as fizzy. The loop no longer makes the crazy hissing noise that it was. I'm feeling much better about this amp now.

I'm still having issues with the amp playing nice with my Nova System, but have decided that since it takes pedals so well, I'll just go that route. Time to find a good delay pedal..lol!

Of the preamp tubes, seven of the eight tubes did not have a label on them. So I have no idea what those were. V6 was a JJ. None of the power tubes hare labeled. The only thing on them is a small white sticker on the base that reads "6 White BAL" So who knows...

What tubes are you guys liking in your 5150IIIs?

Was the amp you got used? Or it came new that way? Mine has JJ's in Pre and Power... never had a desire to change them..

I like what the original run came with. About the first 1000 made. It is a mix of Electro Harmonix and Sovteks preamps with Sovtek power.

The amp is brand new. Just got it yesterday. So the tubes that I pulled were stock.

The tubes are all JJ's... I just had a new 5150 III ... The tubes are not labeled but I compared them next to JJ's and visually they are exactly the same.

What's the difference between the Sovtek WC and the WB?
the amp came with WC's.

sorry, can't answer as to what the technical difference is.

maybe you had a bad pre or power tube somewhere? I haven't experimented much with tube swapping but did put my go to tungsol in V1, it sounded good, but I liked how it sounded stock, for the first time I am not running to change tubes. so I am thinking you had a bad tube somewhere. mine still pops though.

The jjs sound best to me in the preamp........The Sovtek wxt+ 6L6s sound great in the poweramp. I tried a lot of different tubes in this amp.

My 100 watt 5150III came with all JJ's and 4 of the 8 preamp tubes were microphonic. I replaced them with unlabeled Shuguang 9th gens and like it a lot better.

my 50 watt came with all JJ's as well, but it sounds good, no noise or microphonics, and I've never thought the amps were overly fizzy.
