just sold my shiva and tremoverb and i want another amp, looking into the lunchbox thing now since my back has been really acting up. cant afford getting hurt and being laid up missing work and all

my cover band ususaly plays bars that arent big so i dont really need the overkill 100 watt head into a 4x12 anymore. i have a lonestar 1x12 cab that only weighs around 30lbs and is very easy to carry around. so i was looking into a head that is lighter than the mark 5 to make gigging a little easier for me

i cant find this amp in any store to try so il be ordering it off of a website on a whim, ive also never tried the 5153 100 watt so i have no idea what the amp is voiced like

is it similar to the peaveys or not really. from the clips ive heard it just seems like a more modern peavey 6505 thats a little tighter and faster

the 5153 isnt going to be a alot lighter then a mark v, but its a smokin amp ,think smoother 5150 with a awesome crunch channel and good clean, stupid high gain too, for me less bs then the markv which I love..apples to oranges tone wise

First, the EVH 50 watter is large. I really don't think it should be in the "lunchbox" catagory. The EVH 50 and the Mark V are about the same size though the EVH is lighter.

I owned a Peavey 5150 combo and couldn't gel with it. Too much high end fiz that I couldn't dial out even when running CL80's and switching around different tubes. Definately did the brootz well but not my thing. The EVH is a bit smoother without the high end spike in the ear. I always felt the combo was very tight. Tighter than channel 3 of the EVH to my ears, which is more compressed. I use it for leads only. For me, channel 2 of the EVH gives me a tight rhythm tone that I am very pleased with.

on the website it says that its only 35lbs so yea its not really a lunchbox amp but it is prob lighter and easier to carry around than the mark is. i didnt like the 6505 i had at all, same thing with the high end fizz so if the evh is anything like that amp i will more than likely hate it

im also considering the mini recto but honestly i just dont feel its worth a grand which is the only thing holding me back

Rich get the EVH you wont regret it...non of that fizz..I have 5150's...

I feel the Peavey and EVH are totally different amps. I feel the only thing they have in common is the numbers in the name. Too often in forum conversation the III is lumped into generalities with the Peavey.

There is a 50watter for sale on ebay now. I think it may be from a forum member here, but I could be wrong. I don't know if he'll break up the pair though.

Do these amps have a store button on them somewhere for storing the MIDI information? Is the effects loop switchable via MIDI as well? How do you store MIDI patches on say just a regular MIDI Moose pedal?

(Sorry for the hi-jack, I can't find the answer to this question ANYWHERE)

It's a great amp. I know your clips and think it would be right up your alley.

Yes, you can store the info using the channel select buttons on the front of the amp. The efx loop is also switchable via midi. Here is the manual:

Have to admit I feel like a moron for not thinking to look at the manual, but I really appreciate the help!!!

Gotta be honest, sounds like an awesome little amp, with a 4x12 is it loud enough for unmic'd larger gigs, and loud practices with a LOUD drummer?

Yes. Plenty of volume on tap, especially with a 4x12  . It never gets lost in the mix either.

I have one and so far, I love it. It's a nice complement to my MarkV
Channel 2 is a great, channel 3 has plenty of gain but is a bit noisy.

I'd get one as well, but I think I would only use one channel.
I'm really bonding with my 6505 anyways. It's nice and raw with great grind and zero fizz. Pretty easy to dial that out personally.
The III sounds great, but too compressed sounding for my needs right now. Chan2 is probably the ticket for me, but that would be it.

Are these amps mid heavy like the peaveys are ? Or are they a little more balanced

Personally I would say go for the 5153 50 watt, but only because I love the heck out of mine

I have no experience with other Peaveys but the eq controls on the mini are quite useable.
I'm able to dial in any tone I want.

Don't have experience with the 50 watt but I played a 5150 block letter from 93' to 07' till I bought the 100 watt 5150 III. Much more balanced in the mids and just overall. Very versatile amp whereas I always thought my original 5150 was more if a one trick pony. Mainly for metal and hard rock. You can get pretty much any tones with a 5150 III and by adding your choice of a boost or overdrive even more.

Any more 5153 mini love? Some other forums are going crazy over these things, and they seem to be selling out as fast as anyone can get them.

Here on Rig Talk, there are guys that really know that genre of tone. Just wondering if any of you have really thought "wow, this amp is as good as anything out there now, no matter the price!"

Lots and lots of love for these on Rigtalk the last 4 months or so.
