I want to try out some 5751 tubes, is it a general consensus that the JAN-GE 5751 is the one to get

Yep. I use them quite a bit and have never had an issue with them. Use them in V1 and they are excellent in series tube loops too.

Ebay has some 5751 and the seller list the tube test at 94/92 for Dynamic Mutual Conductance and 103/102 for Emissions.

I'm some what of a noob to vintage tubes, What does this mean, do theses values mean the tube is good?

I buy mine from Tube Depot. I don't trust many jackholes on ebay when it comes to tubes. Or, someplace like TC Tubes for vintage.

I only have Jan Phillips. There is a Sovtek and JJ version.

TD has a bit of a blurb on them.

The JP in V1 tames the fizz in my DSL perfectly.

I have 5 of the JAN-GE 5751's and use them in the PI spot of a RM100 currently. I have never tried one in the V1 spot but if steve_k and Heritage Softail say that it is a good fit in the V1, I shall try one there tonight!

They work well too for amps that may have a bit of a noise issue at the gain levels you like. And, they work well for loud amps where you can barely crack the master open. I used them across the complete front end of the SLO, input, gain, cathode, PI and all.

You will probably notice that the gain will probably top out around 1:00-2:00 on your amp, but you will be able to run the master a bit higher. This is where the goods are anyway.

The JP (and I assume the others) are one of the few output limiting tubes that can handle the input voltage. If you really need put the brakes on a high gainer, try a 12AT7 in the PI only. Thank me later.....

I want to use it to bring down the gain and compression on the red channel 3 of the EVH 5150III

Roger this. I use 2 of them in V1 and V2 of a Splawn modded Marshall 1987 to tame it a bit. Sounds great and adds a musical quality back.

Im assuming these are 12ax7 equivalent?

Would these be good for a high gain amp if you still wanted higher gain? Maybe just to tame any noise? I always crank the master on my amp.

i've had good results with the Jan-Phillips, but haven't been able to get hold of any recently,

bought a JJ 5751 one for my JCM800 , sounds good and easier to get too

I'm going to grab a JJs get my feet wet

I tried dropping a 5751 into V1 of a Randall RM100 last night. I was tired from a long day so only spent a few minutes at low volume with it but I like what I hear so far. Yes, there is noticeably less gain but it sounds better than simply lowering the gain on the amp would have done with the AX7 in V1.

I will put some heat behind it over the next few days to get a better feel for what is actually happening.

When I bought my mesa mark IVA used years ago it had GE 5751's in the 12AX7 slots. The amp sounded really good. I ended up putting GE and RCA 12AX7's in the mark IVA and moving the GE 5751's to my Fender DRRI, which smoothed that amp out. I eventually sold the DRRI and still have the 5751 tubes, I keep them around just in case I need a low gain tube. If I get a Kingsley Jouster overdrive pedal, I may try 5751s in there.
