59 LP into Dumble

spews endless nonsense about PRS and Dumbles, plays “politician“ over and over.
The original Robben Ford cover of Politician had a really great tone and RF plays a pretty cool version of it. Sometimes I think a lot of the Dumble crowd is chasing that specific tone. For some reason that version is not on Youtube. It was from the Mystic Mile record and was a studio version. It's really good.

That one record was my foray into RF. Good player and cool tones...not my thing.

Many years ago I was on The Amp Garage (another tag) which was basically only about the two grails, Dumble and Trainwreck (not my grails fwiw). I built a power scaled Express, a Rocket, and a Dr Z Z-Wreck. Only still have the Rocket and still love/play it. I also built a Dumble 50W HRM inspired prototype with the HRM tone controls on the front panel. I modded that thing to hell and back and had a little help from Scott Lerner who was extremely knowledgeable about Dumble circuits (good player too). Still have, sounds OK, looks like shit. Keep thinking I should try to turn it into a IIC+ abortion of some sort. That Dumble ODS circuit is finicky.

EDIT: FWIW/IMO; the IIC+ circuit has a basic architecture that is very similar to the Dumble ODS. The first 2 stages are Fender-based clean; that clean signal then feeds into the next 2 stages for OD. The OD in both amps is very dependent on the clean settings. Dumble later leaned out the OD and added the HRM tone stack but they were trimmers inside the amp. Randall leaned out the OD so it was smooth but really mid-focused so then it needed the GEQ to scoop it back.

There's by far more amp knowledge on TGP than any other forum.
It's on the lighter side for sure and you'll get banned for calling someone a faggot. But no forum is perfect..

You can't say vagina on tgp without a ban but you can talk about penis all week long.
As far as amp knowledge yousta be several chaps at Marshall forum who were well versed in Electronics tho that place is a clusterfuck.
Still a couple fart smellers i mean smart fellers over there.
tgp fellows all seem to be in competition with each other who has "the best" whatever.

Guys on Marshall forums are circle jerking each other with the same tired mods.. What a bunch of fags.. LOL

I perceive classic PAF tone as a hollow honk. The mids are somewhat recessed though not to the point of being scooped. The midrange character that is there comes across as a distinctive honk. Bass is big but spongy and the highs are open and airy.

but some of his PRS/Dumble clips sounds pretty good…even on phone clips.
Undeniable the guy can play the guitar and it sounds good, he just doesn't know when to shut the fuck up. Its relentless and yawn worthy. His whole obsession with Shad Dameron / Quinn TNT amps is hilarious. I spent a bunch of time with that guy before he went sideways and bailed out of town...that's a whole nuther story in itself.....

There are some super knowledgeable people and lots of working pro level players regularly on TGP, you need to weed thrrough the babble to find them.

Flip side is TGP is littered with instant experts who all of a sudden are authorities on product ABC. There's a guy over there that chimes in often re an amp that I own / owned....the particular amp is verified freaking magic. Now after a little 'follow the path' research I figured out that same dude actually owned my amp and sold it to the guy I bought it from, and had posted up his views of said amp on TGP and they weren't exactly flattering. I then found a video clip of the guy playing the amp. Suffice to say if I heard that clip before I purchased it there is no way I would've bought it. It prob had more to do with the fact the guy could barely put two chords together and I mean barely, combined with a lack of basic amp setup knowledge. It was a mess and that's being nice. Now dude chimes in whenever he can about how awesome the amps are and he misses them. Other clips he has of different amps are equally craptactular with no apparent advancement in technique of any type, yet he goes on spewing. The Internet is a weird fucking place :ROFLMAO:

It’s funny when people think they like PAF’s but then hate the sound of a vintage les paul. Obviously this isn’t you, but it’s really interesting to me. This is just what original PAF’s sound like. For instance some people hate on the PRS 85/15 set that’s in the new 2020-2021 PRS’s, but think they LOVE the sound of PAF’s… those pickups are legit the closest I’ve ever heard to a vintage PAF. Plug in a newer PRS custom 24 and that is LITERALLY what a vintage les paul pickup sounds like. Hyper percussive, extended lows and highs, super scooped midrange etc. i always laugh at this one big time. I absolutely LOVE those pickups and the new PRS’s specifically.

Anyways , this doesn’t obviously apply to you, but it just reminded me of this thing that I’ve noticed alot over the years.
I’m curious which PAF loaded guitars you tried that sounded that way. They can certainly vary, so maybe it’s possible, but I’ve tried a good amount of guitars loaded with real ‘50’s PAF’s, not the ‘60’s ones called Patent Sticker (those sound closer to what you’re describing), some of which weren’t even in ‘50’s or ‘60’s Gibsons and none of them to me sounded the way you’re describing. All of the ones I tried had pronounced midrange, often some honkiness there, often had thick lower mids, but not actually very extended lows or highs. I also have several Tone Specific Bloombuckers, which imo are very authentic sounding to PAF’s, had them in literally guitars ranging from mahogany body to all rosewood body, maple, alder, Paduak, Koa, pine, limba and they also have that flavor. Some were tight, but none what I consider to be very tight. They tend to have some roundness to the attack. I’m a huge paf fan by the way, just haven’t heard any that sounded like you’re describing. Would be interesting if they can vary that much such that some are scooped and very tight. One of my friends has a fluke paf that has a DC close to 11k he’s gonna let me borrow it when he can find it. He says it’s a monster
