Hope I got a deal. Got the head for $600 and he threw in the RC for another $150

I didn't try it with my own guitars yet. Wasn't too impressed with the sound but as I mentioned it wasn't with my own guitars.

I figure I can get my money back easily on this if I don't like it. Only have the 2x12 recto cab at the moment to try it through.

The 6505+ is one of my favorite amps of all time , can easily hang with anything out there. If it doesn't sound great than it needs new tubes....I would suggest JJ preamp tubes and TAD 6L6 power rubes or Sovtek Wxt +….......Trust me that amp kicks serious ass for Hard Rock / Metal.

But does it Djent?

Just kidding, I got rid of my 8 string.

Got one recently and dig it as much as any amp I've ever had. I've had a few. ;)
Just got the Hotplate yesterday and dig it as well. Seems to work great.
I run mine through a Mesa Rectifier 2x12 as well and it crushes. Not sure what is wrong with yours or if you just need to spend more time with it.
Stunning tones.

Thing does seem to have a killer tone. Killer low end, but to me, the tone is not as complex as the MKV, if that makes any sense.
I think 120W is way over kill for what I'll be using it for. There should be a 20-50w version of this head, that'd be sweet.

Channel 1 sounds killer as well with an OD pedal up front. The amount of gain on this thing is ridiculous on channel 2. It's got a solid and deep low end as well I notice. The low end notes articulate quite well also. Gonna mess around with it for a bit and decide if I'm going to keep it or not.

Cool.
If you're looking to boost it, the Maxon OD808 is fantastic. Gain off, volume up. Killer tone.

By the way, who cares if it's 120 watts? You have one of the best attenuators there is. Use it.

I'd say $750 for the 6505+ and the RC was a pretty good deal. I get what you mean about it not sounding as complex as other amps. As much as I love mine, there is a sweetness that's missing compared to other amps I've played/owned. In full band context that sweetness doesn't really matter and isn't terribly missed. I made this demo last week to test out an iso cab:

The first 3 passes are the Peavey. The first two are the Green crunch channel, non-boosted and then boosted, and the third is the non-boosted Red channel. The settings are pretty similar on each channel: Gain between 3-4 on the dial, bass between 5-6, mids around 3, highs 6-7, and volume just under 2. I don't remember the presence and resonance settings, though.

Since you got a hell of a deal on it to begin with... you could send it to FJA and get a monster of an amp out of it.

rhythm channel is the secret. Crank the pre gain all the way up and use the post gain as a master volume and put it as loud as you can stand. I'm serious here. Needs to be loud. Great rock tone. And of course more gain on the lead channel than you'll ever need.
