man, I've been wanting this for years and now I'm on the AxeFx train....god dammit.

Why these heads doesn't come with 6v6 Jesus!!! I'm tired of el84 :dunno:

I want one! I didn't see whats the street price on one of these??

wow that's hip.

I really wish one of these companies would make a 50 watt short head with this footprint that had 2 channels- a real clean and a real gain. The closest thing is the EVH 50 watt, but the 2nd channel is useless IF you want a real clean and channel 3 has entirely too much gain……

I'd kill for a 50 watt 6505 short head with a REAL clean channel…..

I've been out of the amp game for a while.. and in the mean time all these little low wattage tube amps have became quite popular.. and it seems a lot (all?) lean towards el84's. Is there a reason el84's are such a popular choice instead of going with a 6v6 or el34?

Features:
2x EL84 power tubes and 3x 12AX7/ECC83 preamp tubes
Two footswitchable channels with three-band EQ

3 preamp tubes aren't enough to get the circuit, even if they use an SS loop or no loop, you need 4 preamp tubes or a single ended amp with 3 to get there.

So what up with this stuff?

My guess is solid state loop, 4 gain stage design with the tone stack being plate fed. I've built a few amps that way and you'd be pressed to hear a difference between plate driven and cathode follower driven. However, the original 5150 had 5 gain stages with the tone stack being fed by an inverting feedback amplifier, so 6 stages total) and there's no way you can do that with only 3 12ax7 with one most likely being the typical long tail pair phase inverter.
