Without question the 5150 III 50 watter. It has a better clean, a way better vintage hard rock tone and a heavier modern metal tone. I love the voicing of the blue channel on the new one. That is what I felt the Peavey 5150's always lacked.

EVH by 10,000 miles. There's really no comparison. The EVH is better in every conceivable way.

As someone who's owned the I, II and III, I'd take the III. They're all good, though. Also, if you pay 1k for a 5150, you're getting severely ripped off. You should be paying closer to 600. FWIW, I find the original to be best for pure brutal tones.

ch 3 is insane on the evh III there are amps out their that are equally as good. I just love the simple eq and settings. I would pay about 500-600 for a 5150

Used 100 W EVH. you get separate volume for ch 1 and 2. That is the main complaint I hear about the stage worthiness of the 50w. The huge volume drop of the clean channel.

Once up to stage volume, this is mot an issue.

I`ve had one for about a month (Traded it in for a BE-100) as i own the 100W version, and the volume difference gets more pronounced the lower you go on volume. So it ain`t really an issue if you play it loud. Or with a multi effects unit, you can adjust volumes and it becomes a non issue at any volume, plus you get midi switching witch is just awesome.

Being that they are both about 1k, I was wondering what everyones opinions are of the two if they could have one over the other.

I think I would go the 6505 route... what about you guys.. both for live and at home use ...

I've heard many more recordings of the oldschool amps that I prefer. And if I remember correctly, theFyn at HCAF had a III but has been having much better clips with his 6505+ in a mix IMO. I'm happy with the rock tones I get by just rolling the guitar volume down, but my complaint would be trying to get good cleans from the rhythm channel. With my 6505+ head I get clean cleans, but they can't compare with my Laney VH100R or something like an old Carvin X100B, and they are definitely not "Fendery." :D

I don't know the going used price for a 50 Watt III, but I got my 6505+ in near mint shape shipped from a GC for about $580 total a couple years ago. I don't think you could go wrong with either but would probably have to recommend the III if you'll need clean tones that'll probably be better.

I had a 5150 III 50w and sold it. I kept my 5150, but then again my 50 watter would flub out on channel 2, and after having a new head sent out that did the same thing it had to go

I got my 5150 for $350 and for that cash it's hard to beat. A simple bias mod and the thing roars

Used 100 Watter the 3 separate tonestacks, masters and presences are the sh#t. Saves a bunch of pedals and gear. Wah, tuner and a delay in the loop is my whole setup.
Presence on that amp is really important tool. It can alter the sound so effectively that you can almost leave everything else on noon and get totally different tones.
Red channel with the presence high you can nail the 5150 I sound in 99%

A 5150 III for $600? Please tell me where?

Both the 6505 and 5150III are 1K new, is what the OP is stating.

I haven't spent any time on the III, but feel like I'm heard the amp live and in clips a million times over now. It's a great sounding amp, but I seem to lean more towards the 6505.
I like the 6505's abrasiveness, rawness, and it's mid voicing. The III is a little too polished and refined for my liking. Not bad, just not my desire I guess. They seem to also have A LOT of gain. To the point where the gain covers up the tone/voicing. I don't know. I'd like to sit with one for a while.
Both are great, I heard the III is quieter noise wise, but my 6505 is pretty low noise compared to others so...
