Right now I have my Herbert loaded with all SED winged C 34's and I just can't seem to bound with the amp, it's like I can't find a happy balance in the high's, it's like to shrill or not enough.
Back in my Recto days I always dug 6L6's a little more than EL34's so I'm thinking/hoping that some 6L6's might make be a happy camper with the Herbert.

Can any of you guys share your experience with both in a Herbert, which do you guys like better and why?

Thanks for looking!!

Can't hurt to try.

Yea, I'm gonna give it a go its easy enough with the external bias adjustments
on the Herbert to make tube swap's.
Just wondering if anyone had any input on the differences.

What about throwing some 6550s into the mix?

I'm sad to say but I have never played them and don't really know shit about them.
I hope I don't have to turn in my Rig Talk merit badge now!!!

I run 3 deferent tube pairs mixed together.

Tung-sol el-34 for lowend

SED el-34 for mids

Gold Lion KT-77 for topend

Had all 6L6s in Herbert when I got it and it sounded like a fat sloppy sack of fuck. I seriously thought the amp was broken.

Got rid of them and put in 4 EL34s and 2 6550s and it came to life. Was waaaaaaaaaaaay better.

Here ya go:

I have been doing a bunch of research, some people really dig 6550's in the Herbert.
I have all Rubies EL-34s in my Herbert and it sounds pretty crazy even next to the vh4 :)

Nice vid. I am curious which pair is the 6550? Isn't Herbert 1+6, 2+5, 3+4?

Have you tried all EL34's? That's what Peter was recommending, now it may have changed again. Papa, if you are there, would you enlighten us as to what Herbert's are shipping with these days. Thanks.

Love to hear any more clips from those who mix tubes or have tried other tubes.

I think no amp manufacture is happy with the clips
over the internet. If you are not too much into this
tchugga tchugga riffing please see the clips of Josh Wibaut:

Yeah, because no one that plays a Herbert likes to chug along!

Don't think you listened to the video, there is plenty of single note soloing that is not drenched in delay or fx.

My YT inbox is full of people thanking me for that video, however crappy you may think it is, and that it swayed them to buy a Diezel. You're welcome! :2thumbsup:

Got almost 13,000 views and nothing but extremely positive comments. Oh well, can't please everyone that's for sure! :boxer:

:D

Tried to pm you this instead of post it but you pms turned off. :aww:

Sorry, I didn´t want to insult you. Your clip is
great and way better that what I used to hear.

If there is some free time  it´s on my partner
Peter Stapfer and me to record some clips to show
our personal taste.

I know .... don´t justice and have a big mouth without
releasing your own stuff

Again ... please don´t take me wrong, your playing
is great.

Cheers,
Peter

I think I did 1 and 6 as 6550s and the rest 34s. I tried a TON of combinations, even got some KT88s in there. I did try all EL34s and it was a VERY close 2nd to me. The 6550s just added a tiny bit of clarity that I really liked.

I know Peter has said he prefers the Ruby EL34BHTs in the amps since they came out a couple years ago. I used =C= EL34s in mine.

If you would like to have same more clarity with
the cabinet please send me an email
But I think you sold the amp :aww:

Best,
Peter

You edited that first post and it is a bit more PC now than it was when I initially responded.

I appreciate the kind words.

Yes I sold the amp but I am definitely interested in hearing your thoughts on clarity with the cabinet. I also tried it on my Fryette Fatbottom cabs (front Loaded V30 cabs) but actually preferred it with the Marshalls. :dunno:

Email to you incoming...

Thank you. I assume the amp manufactures are a bit touchy

I like to get some critics and suggestions. That´s the way to
improve the products. I try to have an open mind so everybody
is welcome to contact me. Everybody is welcome to contact
me if there is an idea.

I like 6L6GC power tubes in the Herbert. Call me crazy  ... oh, I love tight, chugging stuff too. It was my #1 amp for like 6 years. I ran it thru a Diezel FL 4X12 w/ V30s. I really loved the sound of it. Guitars, pickups, cabs, and speakers play a big role hear too.

BTW: Killertone bought my Herbert with 6L6GCs (that he mentions above), so it just goes to show how 2 different people can like 2 totally different sounds, all be them somewhat similar overall.
